Got a cable that's all kinked up? Believe it or not, it's a lot easier to fix than you may think. A couple of old fixes involve laying a cable out in the grass on a hot summer day or hanging it off a high balcony but what if you need it fixed quicker... or in the winter? In this video I'll show you my method for correcting a kinky cable.

Welcome to the twenty eighth episode of the Speed Bumps Podcast. There's a common misconception that we've always used lav mics on talent and we always should. In a perfect world, even today, we shouldn't have to and for our first topic I'll discuss when it might be better not to. Set lighting still incorporates the use of flashing bulb style lighting units and those flashed can, but don't always, cause flashing on camera. When can you run the ballasts in "silent mode"? We'll discuss that. Enjoy.

1:01 To Wire or Not To Wire? That is the question.

In this episode of Stories From Set, veteran sound mixer Felipe Borrero tells us two stories from when he was in Cuba to interview Fidel Castro. Sorry there's no video for this interview, twice the video wasn't captured during the interview. These stories are too good not to tell though.

In this continuation of the Bulding Better Boom Ops series I discuss skills you'll want to develop in order to effectively communicate with other departments on set. Being a boom operator is an extremely physical job - perhaps the most physical at times. Thanks to digital recording, takes are getting longer and longer so we boom operators need to take advantage of anything we can to do our jobs while keeping our bodies from being torn apart. In this video I review two products made by Fleetwood Films designed to help boom operators and ENG sound mixers to do their jobs without killing ourselves.
The Boom Buddy and Boom Swinger are available exclusively in the US at Gotham Sound:
NYC@gothamsound.com (212) 629-9430 or
ATL@gothamsound.com (404) 855-2255.

And their listing of the Boom Buddy: https://www.gothamsound.com/product/boom-buddy
For more information about either product, goto: http://www.Boom-Buddy.com
Thank you to fellow boom op Hugo Kundert for his assistance with the location shooting.
Full Disclosure:
Fleetwood Film did send the Boom Swinger and Boom Buddy in exchange for a fair review. I do get to keep them following the review but I'm not going to allow it to influence my review in any way so you can expect it to be an honest review.

Most established industry veterans know how to manage their Internet Movie Database listing or don't bother at all. People new to film are much more likely to list everything they possibly can. That's where there are potential problems. If you don't know how to list things properly, you can accidently misrepresent yourself leading some people to think you're dishonest about your experience. In a few short minutes, you'll know how to properly credit yourself so pay attention. Sound Speeds!
