"Be it Sevagram Ashram near Wardha, Aga Khan Palace or the Yerawada Jail in Pune, the connection between Maharashtraand Gandhiji was strong. He had also acknowledged his love for Mumbai. The Quit India movement, on which the current float is based, also began at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Mumbai," shares Swati, adding that of the three concepts presented, this concept impressed the committee appointed by central government the most. She also informs that the state's culture minister Vinod Tawade lent his full support to the project. Explaining why they chose this concept, Swati says, "A day prior to the commencement of the Quit India movement, Mahatma Gandhi, in his speech, had urged Indians to ‘Do or Die’ at Gowalia Tank Maidan, also called as August Kranti Maidan. He was arrested on August 9 along with a few other major leaders and a young Aruna Asaf Ali presided over the remaining session and hoisted the Indian National Flag.
