The Los Angeles Innocence Project (LAIP) has agreed to examine the Scott Peterson case. The project has filed court papers in an effort to exonerate Peterson, claiming key evidence was withheld from the 2004 trial that found him guilty of killing his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn son. The trial became a media frenzy and a national sensation. Peterson was almost universally reviled and though there was no smoking gun, lots of circumstantial evidence seemed to point to him alone.
