There are a lot of arguments about whether communism, socialism, and liberalism are the same thing. What shouldn't be arguable is that they're all closely related branches of the same tree. If you don't want to live in a house made out of Aleppo Pine, you probably won't like a Coulter Pine or Eastern White Pine house either. However, since socialism has failed so often, socialists of every stripe bend over backwards to disassociate themselves from the many other disasters created by their ideology. Still, a pine by any other name is still a pine.
Socialism is particularly dangerous because it's so perfectly suited for the modern era. It's the ultimate "miracle" product: it's "nice," it's "fair," it'll make you feel good about yourself, it'll "help" people who "deserve it" by taking things away from people who "have so much" they'll barely miss it. It sounds wonderful, doesn't it? But, like most products with sleazy salesmen and hidden track records, the promises socialism makes are all a mirage. Since our schools do a terrible job of teaching history and economics these days, it's our job to explain how socialism slowly, insidiously eats away at the core of a society.

Canada should adopt mandatory voting and a preferential ballot to re-engage citizens in the political system and reinforce democracy, says a new paper by an adviser to Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau.
The analysis, by academic Robert Asselin for the think-tank Canada 2020, comes as Conservative backbencher Michael Chong pushes a bill aimed at rebalancing power between the Prime Minister's Office and the House of Commons.
Asselin, of the University of Ottawa's graduate school of public and international affairs, points to the recent Ontario election as more evidence of the gulf between Canadians and the political system.
In that case, approximately 52.1 per cent of eligible voters turned out to cast a ballot.
Asselin proposes the type of mandatory voting that Australia has instituted, as well as a preferential ballot where the second and third choices of voters are applied until one candidate achieves more than 50 per cent of the vote.
"I'm pushing mandatory voting and preferential ballots so that citizens don't see democratic reform just as reforming institutions, but they see it as something that belongs to us and if we don't take care of it like anything else in our lives ... it will just fall apart," Asselin said in an interview.
Trudeau is also a supporter of a preferential ballot, having made it a plank of his leadership platform.

The White House, whose dishonesty index skyrocketed when five million Americans lost the insurance they liked and their doctors, defended the program. Obama's health care law is "helping labor markets, is helping businesses and is helping jobs," said Jason Furman, the president's chief economist.
That's not how Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) described the CBO's outlook on what Obamacare would do to the U.S. economy in the years to come.
"Today's CBO report gives a sobering outlook on our economy. It confirms what we've known all along: The health care law is having a tremendously negative impact on economic growth."

The Obamacare Flex Account Tax: The 30-35 million Americans who use a pre-tax Flexible Spending Account (FSA) at work to pay for their family's basic medical needs will face a new government cap of $2500. This will squeeze $13 billion of tax money from Americans over the next ten years. (Currently, the accounts are unlimited under federal law, though employers are allowed to set a cap.)

Socialism at Work
Socialism is the Big Lie of the twentieth century. While it promised prosperity, equality, and security, it delivered poverty, misery, and tyranny. Equality was achieved only in the sense that everyone was equal in his or her misery.
In the same way that a Ponzi scheme or chain letter initially succeeds but eventually collapses, socialism may show early signs of success. But any accomplishments quickly fade as the fundamental deficiencies of central planning emerge. It is the initial illusion of success that gives government intervention its pernicious, seductive appeal. In the long run, socialism has always proven to be a formula for tyranny and misery.
A pyramid scheme is ultimately unsustainable because it is based on faulty principles. Likewise, collectivism is unsustainable in the long run because it is a flawed theory. Socialism does not work because it is not consistent with fundamental principles of human behavior. The failure of socialism in countries around the world can be traced to one critical defect: it is a system that ignores incentives.
In a capitalist economy, incentives are of the utmost importance. Market prices, the profit-and-loss system of accounting, and private property rights provide an efficient, interrelated system of incentives to guide and direct economic behavior. Capitalism is based on the theory that incentives matter!

Four of the largest chocolate producers in Canada have agreed to pay more than $23 million to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging price-fixing and price maintenance in the Canadian market.
The defendants — Cadbury Adams Canada Inc., Hershey Canada Inc., Nestle Canada Inc. and Mars Canada Inc., as well as distributor ITWAL Limited — all deny the allegations.
However, they have settled to avoid the expense, inconvenience and distraction of further protracted litigation, says a statement released Monday by lawyers in the case.
The settlements, which reflect a compromise of disputed claims, have been approved by the courts in Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec as being fair, reasonable and in the best interests of class members, says the release.

The state of New York is taking a page from airports across the nation and installing "Text Stops" -- spots for drivers to pull over and read or send text messages - throughout the state, in an effort to curb an epidemic of drivers who continue to text behind the wheel. In truth, these "Text Stops" are really just repurposed rest facilities that already exist. Rest stops, parking areas, and Park-n-Ride facilities are simply being outfit with new signage specifying each as a new Texting Zone and encouraging drivers to use them instead of attempting the old one-handed-quick-look method of surreptitiously texting from your lap. Optical Illusion roads
The technique for the first time will be tested in Fort Lauderdale later this year or early next year. It will start on a curving stretch of Andrews Avenue and if it works, it may be used on other roads in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Researchers at the Federal Highway Administration say by spacing the lines gradually closer together, it creates the illusion that drivers are getting to them sooner. Therefore, drivers think they're traveling faster than they are and slow down. The pattern of lines also grabs their attention.

Difficulties in assembling landing craft forced a postponement until June, but June 5 was fixed as the unalterable date by Eisenhower on May 17. As the day approached and troops began to embark for the crossing, bad weather set in, threatening dangerous landing conditions. After tense debate, Eisenhower and his subordinates decided on a 24-hour delay, requiring the recall of some ships already at sea. Eventually, on the morning of June 5, Eisenhower, assured by chief meteorologist James Martin Stagg of a break in the weather, announced, “O.K. We’ll go.” Within hours an armada of 3,000 landing craft, 2,500 other ships, and 500 naval vessels—escorts and bombardment ships—began to leave English ports. That night 822 aircraft, carrying parachutists or towing gliders, roared overhead to the Normandy landing zones. They were a fraction of the air armada of 13,000 aircraft that would support D-Day.

More than 70million Americans - or one in five of the population - is on mind-altering drugs, a new study reported by WND.com has found.
The shocking survey revealed that prescription drug abuse as well as illegal narcotics use has reached epidemic proportions across the country.
Nearly 50 million people are thought to have been given high-strength substances by their doctors - leading to an alarming spike in drug-related deaths.
The death of movie star of Philip Seymour Hoffman from an apparent heroin overdose again promoted the spectre of illicit substances in the country's psyche.
But new research by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has suggested the far greater hazard is posed by over the counter prescription drugs, such as anti-depressants, sleeping pills and anxiety relief substances.
Experts have warned legal substances caused more overdose deaths than heroine and cocaine combined during the past decade, according to the U.S. report.
In 2010 more than 250 million prescriptions for antidepressants were written for Americans.

Sell the CBC
More Canadians now favour privatizing CBC, Canada Post and Via Rail than favour keeping the Crown corporations in public hands.
A poll of 1,996 Canadians by Abacus Data found that 45% of those surveyed support or strongly support selling CBC compared to 34% who opposed the move, while 21% were undecided. Support for selling Canada Post was slightly higher with 47% backing a sale and 38% opposed. Via Rail had the highest level of support for privatization with 53% agreeing that the rail service should be sold off.
Conservative voters were most likely to support privatization overall but they were not alone. A majority of Liberal and NDP voters backed privatizing Via Rail, 57% and 51% respectively. When it came to the postal service 58% of Conservatives agreed with privatization, 51% of Liberals and just 42% of New Democrats.
Via Rail lost $334,754,000 in 2012 before a government subsidy of $279,133,000 kicked in. Canada Post lost $129 million in the third quarter of 2013 and losses are expected to mount as fewer people send mail the old-fashioned way.
A previous Abacus poll on privatizing CBC found just 33% backed selling off the state broadcaster. This latest poll shows a 12% jump in support and it too crosses party lines. Fully 63% of self-identified Conservative voters back privatizing CBC. More Liberals backed privatization than opposed it, 45% versus 39% and New Democrats were split with 44% supporting privatization and 45% opposing.

Public schools are grooming your children
On April 9, Oklahoma State University hosted a “drag queen story hour” for children as young as 2 years old on its campus. The event was part of the university’s “Pride 2022” celebration. A description for the program stated two drag performers would read books to all attendees and that the drag queen story hour was geared toward children between the ages of 2 to 8, but that “all ages [were] welcome to join in on the fun.”
You read that correctly. A major university, paid for by the good conservative citizens here in the heartland of America, is openly declaring that it is working to groom our children and that they are starting when they are as young as 2 years old.
This nonsense is pervasive across our nation. What happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas. If it’s happening in Oklahoma, it is happening in your own backyard.

The Liberals have sneakily brought back the gun registry
Oh, I’m sure Trudeau Liberals will claim they are not reviving the convoluted, expensive, controversial, useless registry. After all, they swore up and down before the 2015 election they would never reinstate the registry if elected.
If you call any Liberal MP’s office and ask about Registry 2.0, I am confident you’ll get some talking-points answer along the lines, “We’re just asking anyone selling a gun in Canada to keep a record of who they sold it to. That information might be useful if the gun is ever used to commit a crime. And isn’t that what we all want, a safer Canada?”

Since the beginning of the idea of birth control, Margaret Sanger has been an advocate when it comes to “Family Planning.” According to abortion activists, Margaret Sanger was a champion for women’s rights, a leader for women’s reproductive health, and a saint for women who felt they had no other choice but to have an abortion. In my opinion, the work she did was not promoted to all women, but only to “perfect,” white women. Sanger’s ideas were steeped in racism, ableism, and hatred.
