When Philips announced the biggest cpap recall in history, they stated that the PE-PUR foam may degrade into particles which may enter the device’s air pathway and be ingested or inhaled by the user, and the foam may off-gas certain chemicals. The foam degradation may be exacerbated by use of unapproved cleaning methods, such as ozone, and high heat and high humidity environments may also contribute to foam degradation.
It seemed like Philips were blaming their issues on the use of ozone cleaning devices! I didn't believe it personally as i thought that if it was ozone then all the other companies would be having problems as well which was not the case.
I decided to find out for myself (and for all of you). I ran an experiment where i place new foam from the DS1, DS2 and AirSense10 into a bag and then pumped it full of ozone for 5 days straight. The results were incredible!
The problematic PE-PUR foam that caused the recall was almost melted, whilst the other two foam samples from the DS2 and AirSense10 were largely unaffected!
There's no doubt that ozone use does exacerbate the degradation of PE-PUR foam however i have also received many many emails from Philips customers who have never used ozone but have foam that looked like my experiment. Many did live in tropical climates.
It's VERY IMPORTANT to understand though that even without ozone or heat and humidity the foam is not good for your health. Lab testing performed for and by Philips have shown the foam releases volatile organic compounds above safe level from day 1. Once the foam starts to break down it also releases other toxic and carcinogenic chemicals.

Many of you don't know this but Philips is also heavily involved in the sleep diagnostics side of the industry and thousands of sleep labs use their sleepware software but also and more importantly the Philips OmniLab CPAP machines that they use to do titration studies. From what i'm hearing many of these labs are continuing to use these devices with patients even though they are part of the the CLASS 1 RECALL. This is absolutely unacceptable!
I understand that it's a pain in the ass but that's life! Your only option is to disconnect those devices and find another solution. FULL STOP!
If any of you go into one of these labs for a study and you see one connected then you should call them out on it and tell them it's an unsafe device that has been recalled.

Okay so you've just had a massive argument with your partner and you want a little bit of revenge! Keep your farts locked up for a few hours before bed and whilst they're drifting off into dreamland give them a little nightmare of your own. Walk up beside the intake filter and unleash fury into the CPAP. The turbine will suck down that green cloud of stench and propel it into your partners face at 100 miles per hour! Sit back and watch the panic set in as they try and escape the toxic chamber.

Hi guys, i found this information interesting so i just wanted to share it with you. I will do a proper video demonstrating the Airbreak in the coming weeks for entertainment purposes. It's very technical and if not done correct you can brick your ResMed and it can not be saved so i don't recommend you attempt it unless you have some old device you're no longer using and you like a challenge.
It's certainly interesting to know that all the machines have basically the same capabilities and that the modes are just switched off at the end of production.
I've ben having a lot of fun with my AirSense 10 Autoset that is now a mutant and has a whole bunch of new functionality.
If you want to check out the airbrake you can visit www.airbreak.dev
Thanks for your watching. I hope you enjoyed it.
Big thanks to Tyler who helped me out. You're a good man! Cheers

This a high-stakes game of Chess and Philips just played the FDA for a fool. How will they weigh up the risks and health outcomes of recalling the recall? Links coming in 20 min
