Music is slowly disappearing and needs to be preserved. Giving up ownership of our music, movies, and art leaves it in the hands of large companies like spotify, apple music, netflix, and itunes, who can delete, modify, and alter it, as it better fits their business model. Without owning an original copy, the original art is effectively disappeared. Once an album is no longer available on youtube, itunes, or spotify, it has essentially been flushed down the memory hole. Editing and altered versions of classic films have already become the standard on platforms like Netflix. Keeping a personal consumer record of out artistic history is vital to preserving music and film from being converted completely into "content".
