Is My Bloody Valentine the best slasher film from the early 80's? Directed by George Mihalka, My Bloody Valentine is a stylish, Canadian, gore-filled romp that really goes toe to toe with other big named slashers at the time like Halloween and Friday the 13th.
Jon, comic book artist loses his hand in a terrible car accident. He loses his job, wife, kid and lover in unfortunate events. As Jon slowly loses his mind, he has visions of his severed hand murdering the people who did him wrong. It sounds silly but it's taken very seriously.

The Initiation from 1984 has a bunch of similarities with A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). Both films revolve heavily around dreams, both have a burned man who seemingly kills the friends of the heroine, and both films have a memorable chase scene that takes place in a boiler room. That's a lot of similarities on paper, but both films are very different if you watch them side by side.

A mix between The Amityville Horror and Halloween, The Boogeyman (1980) is a perplexing supernatural slasher. There are plenty of good moments, however, there are just as many head-scratching sequences. And it goes far beyond the first one. The sequels are very more polarizing. It's a wild ride and no matter how bad these films are, they are at least better than the 2005 Boogeyman!

Who doesn’t love a good summertime carnival? From the rides to the attractions to the food, carnivals are magical, especially for kids. One day, the carnival suddenly arrives, and just as quick as they come, they disappear. There’s so much mystery surrounding them and is a great premise to base a horror movie on. Tobe Hooper directs this wonderfully familiar yet oddly unique slasher that has one of the most visually interesting slasher villains ever.

Night School is an American-Giallo film through and through. While it has slasher elements, the focus is more on the police force trying to figure out the mystery. You see, the mystery is that co-eds from the local University are losing their heads.

It seems like late 1987 and 1988 were the prime years to rip off A Nightmare on Elm Street. There are so many films within this small span that tried to ride the coattails of the Krueger films. I’ve already covered Bad Dreams, and 976-Evil, but there’s also Slumber Party Massacre 2, Prom night 2, Don’t Panic, and Slaughterhouse Rock. It makes sense that there was a flood of clones being released because Krueger was on top of the world during these years. Dream Warriors came out in ‘87 which was the highest-grossing elm street film by a wide margin, and then just a year later, Nightmare 4 the Dream Master surpassed the box office success of part 3, big time. The franchise was trending up and money was rolling in. It seemed like Freddy Krueger could do no wrong and fans were hungry for the burned dream demon. Speaking of which...
The UK film, Dream Demon from 1988 is yet another example of taking the elm street formula and trying to cash in on it. But did Dream Demon plagiarise A Nightmare on Elm Street? Well, when talking about proclaimed elm street rip-offs, we first must dip our toes into the surface-level similarities before we dive into the plot and really break down the differences. And of course, we’ll end with the rating that will determine if Dream Demon is really an Elm Street rip-off.

I’m known for reviewing some objectively bad films from time to bad. And even though I enjoy these less than stellar works of cinematic art, every once in a while I want to watch a good movie. I have really been trying to watch more Giallo films, so maybe I’ll watch a good Giallo film. I heard The House with the laughing windows from 1976 is pretty good. So I checked it out and after seeing it… I can safely say that The House with the Laughing Windows is not a good Giallo film… it’s a great one! In fact, it may be one of the best Giallo films of all time. I’m dead serious, and you’ll find out why if you stick around.
