Josh Hoyer & The Macy Sounds - "The Loneliest I've Ever Been"
Imagine if Dan Auerbach cut a Tony Joe White record around the time he released "Polk Salad Annie" and peppered it with soul-country vocals from Stones-era Muscle Shoals. That’s what you get when “The Loneliest I’ve Ever Been” by Josh Hoyer & The Macy Sounds hits your speakers. The Macy Sounds formed in Color Red Studios during fall 2018 as a collaboration between Eddie Roberts, Pete Shand, and Joe Tatton (The New Mastersounds) alongside John Macy on pedal steel guitar and Jeff Franca (Thievery Corporation) on drums. Roberts called upon Hoyer when searching for someone who can wear several musical hats ranging from hearty, swaggering blues stylings to pensive, soul-filled lyrics. Hoyer pens words inspired by a free-spirited stint in his mid-20s where he was roaming around the country living out of his van and trying to make a doomed love affair make sense. This is the final track of a 3-song collection from Hoyer and The Macy Sounds with Color Red slated to release music by Hoyer’s own project, Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal, in the coming months.

"The Loneliest I've Ever Been" is a true-to-life, rollicking Soul/Country song that harkens back to Tony Joe White's "Polk Salad Annie" days. The Macy Sounds laid down a funky old chicken shack rumbler that immediately made me feel loose, and sentimental about a stretch during my mid-20s when I was a free spirit bounding from one area of the country to the next, living outta my van and trying to make a doomed love affair make sense. My favorite live in the song is, "I know how it feels when the truth doesn't favor your preference." That about sums it up. Ha! It was an absolute blast writing and singing over these killer tracks laid down by The Macy Sounds. I am super stoked to finish up recording with Eddie Roberts for my upcoming album with Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal. This is the most natural connection I have felt with a producer/engineer. Eddie has taste and knows what this music is all about. He guides, but doesn't stifle. It's going to be a killer record. Be on the lookout for a Spring 2020 release." - Josh Hoyer
