MINDSTORY INNER COACH
https://mindstoryacademy.com/bookHave you ever caught yourself worrying about rejection? It's a normal part of life, yet also a killer of productivity. It's often the underlying cause of things like procrastination and poor communication.
It kicks in just before you’re about to pick up the phone or speak at a meeting. The knot in the stomach, the racing heart, it’s the survival brain alerting you – danger! Then your ability to think and communicate drastically reduces.
What if you could train your brain not to fear rejection? Imagine it. What would that be like for you? What would you be doing in your life that you aren't doing now? Here’s one tip to break free. It helps to examine the thoughts you’re choosing to think about it. I was talking to a client the other day who was nervous about an upcoming speech at her company meeting. In exploring her thoughts, I helped her move from the vague generalization of "Everyone will hate it.” To “some people might not like it” and maybe some people will.
The truth is, often the only differentiator between someone who is successful in their work, and someone who is not is they’re willingness to feel rejected, plus their ability to explore what they’re making it mean, and change that meaning at will. So, a mantra that works for me, and worked well for her in that moment was…Bring it on. Reject me. Bring it on. I am willing to be who I am. I know that rejection comes with the territory. I will not reject myself by not even trying, in a weird attempt to prevent rejection from other people. So, try that mantra and be willing to lose someone's approval in order to gain our own.
