MAKING IT HAPPEN FOR VETERANS Knowsley Council & Liverpool City Council has set up a Making it Happen Group for Veterans to oversee the delivery of the Armed Forces Community Covenant. Vince Hagen from Wirral DVD filmed The Armed Forces Career Transition Fair in Liverpool http://wirraldvd.com The group is supported by Assistant Lord Mayor for Liverpool (Roz Gladden) and chaired by the veterans champion for Liverpool (Councillor Peter Mitchell). Key strategic partners include Armed Forces (Lt Col Bill Busby), City Council Strategic Lead for Military Veterans -- Assistant Director of Adult Services (Dyane Aspinall), as well as key representatives from Health, and Voluntary and Charitable organisations. The aim of the group is to ensure that the welfare needs of Service personnel and veterans are captured and understood with the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and ensure that all support services are fully accessible to meet the changing needs of the military, their families and veterans, including the Reserves of all three forces. The group meets on a quarterly basis. The Making it Happen Group for Veterans has four task groups. The task groups report to the MIH and have their own individual meetings and work plans. CTP staff understand the military way of life and the challenges facing people making the transition to civilian life. Although primarily focussed on helping service leavers to find suitable employment in a second career, the service also includes preparations for civilian life for those who do not wish to find employment (e.g. those planning to retire or those seeking full time education).
