This is a re-badged version of the first freediving video I made back in 2013. It is mainly done around the end of the Port Noarlunga Jetty. As with any old video there are definately a few things I'd do differently now however there are a few shots that still hold up to some of my more recent videos.
This jetty featured on one of the other videos on this channel as seen from the air. This time it's underwater.
I used to climb quite a bit but for health reasons thought it would no longer be possible. However after 15 years being inactive I recently started again and found that it may actually be helpful in moderation for my condition (which is an inflammatory auto immune illness).
Vertical Reality is an indoor rock climbing gym in the Adelaide area which is well run, good value for money and with a lot walls (so it can accommodate quite a lot of climbers of all abilities). It's a great workout and a lot of fun.

The Eyre Peninsula in South Australia is a place we've visited a number of times. In 2014 we had the opportunity to participate in a Baird Bay Ocean Eco Experience to swim with the dolphins and sea lions. The staff are well informed and friendly and will make your tour one you won't forget. A fantastic experience that we highly recommend.

Australia's most iconic maxi-yacht, Brindabella had her first official cruise for members of the public and I was on it.
I don't get boat envy often, but I've always wanted to sail on this one ever since the 90's in which she was regularly competing for line honors in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. She won the race in 1997 and came second a further 4 times. Expectations were high for this cruise and it didn't disappoint. What a memorable afternoon! I have to say it ticked all the boxes and I can't recommend it highly enough. It's excellent value for money, the crew are friendly, knowledgeable and will make it a fun and safe experience.
If can check this new venture out by going to their website.

If you want to book onto a cruise just find their online shop and select 'Book a Sail'. From there it is a pretty intuitive process and you will receive an email with further instructions shortly after you have booked.
At the time of making this video there were 3 adventure cruise options but I'm advised that more are planned in the future so stay tuned for that. For this cruise I picked the 'Half Day Sailing Adventure'. Rather than me discussing it in the description box, just watch the video. Everyone who went on it found it memorable. Not even the rain could take away the smiles on our faces. One of South Australia's most unique experiences. Highly recommended.

Some years ago I was planning to produce a freediving video of this site for a photo and video competition but we ended up going diving elsewhere that weekend. This is what I came up with a week later. It's rather a shame we didn't get to enter it because it's one of our better freediving videos and I think we would have fared rather well. The old Rapid Bay Jetty is one of the best jetty dives in South Australia, may have even suggested in the country and one that I've dived at for many years.

The Murray River at 2,508 kilometres is the longest river in Australia. It's source is high in the Australian Alps, then meanders across some of the inland plains that form the border between New South Wales and Victoria before entering South Australia which is perhaps where it is at it's most spectacular. It eventually reaches the ocean via Lake Alexandrina (which at it's widest point is itself over 38 kilometres).
The Murray is a well known tourist attraction and is also used as a fresh water source. It's a popular destination for water sports and holidays. Perhaps the best way to see it is by doing a houseboat trip on it and it was during such a trip that we took this series of spectacular images.

Shortly after installing the centreplate we had our next challenge to deal with. This time our outboard motor as the starter cord jammed when we were at sea and for one reason or another we were unable to get it going at the time and in low wind ended up getting towed in by the Coast Guard! The moral to the story is when your gut is telling you to get something serviced, do it! That being said it was a rather simple fix with no real damage and we learnt more about outboards in the process so you might say it was a blessing in disguise.

Lake Bonney is a large lake located next to the town of Barmera in South Australia. It measures 6.5 km down the length at it's longest stretch and is the venue for our latest marathon swim challenge. On this occasion I swam 2 laps of the lake along that course making the swim 13 km.
I'd been wanting to do this swim for years. As a much younger person I competed here in open water swimming competitions that were much shorter in length that took part near Barmara running parallel to the shore. It was at this time that I became aware that Lake Bonney had been the site of an attempt on the world water speed record by Donald Campbell in his jet powered hydroplane, Bluebird K7 back in 1964 when he was trying to become the first person to capture both land and water speed records in the same calender year. I had quite a fascination with Campbell at the time, having watched a film about his last record attempt in 1967 that ultimately ended tragically. I worked out where the run had taken place, along the longest stretch of the lake and decided that someday I would swim two laps of the lake along this course. I wasn't aware of anyone else who had done it so it seemed like an interesting challenge worth doing.
We decided that we would camp at the northern end of the lake for Christmas of 2018 and that we would do the course back to front with the turnaround point being the Bluebird Cafe (which is an extension of the shed that Campbells boat was housed in during the 1964 attempt). On Christmas eve we had a good weather window so shortly before 6.00 am we headed off and benefitted from flat water for most of the swim. It's worth noting that Campbell wasn't so lucky as it was the wind and water state that ultimately caused the attempt on Lake Bonney, which had yielded speeds of up to 216 mph, to eventually be called off and be moved to Lake Dumbleyung in Western Australia. It was there that on the last day of the year he recorded an average speed over two runs of 276.33 mph to set a new world record and become the first (and so far only) person to officially set both world land and water speed records in the same calender year.
Many thanks to K7 Project Bluebird for providing some stock footage to assist me in making this video.

I got a Jetboil Flash after getting frustrated by how slowly my previous hot water boiling system was taking to boil water in cold windy weather. It's been a bit of a game changer on that front. I thought it was time I did a review on it. I'm not claiming it is a solution for all things cooking when you are camping. It has it's limitations, but if you want to boil water fast (be it for a hot drink or to add to a freeze dried meal) it ticks all of the boxes.
