Vancouver SkyTrain | ride on Bombardier Mark III on the Expo Line (2018.12.09)
Here's my first transit video on my visit to Vancouver this year, riding on the Bombardier Mark III (Innovia Metro 300) set 413-416 from Metrotown to Stadium-Chinatown. It's somewhat of a logical continuation of the Mark III that I filmed last year, taking it from Lougheed Town Centre to Metrotown. There are still seven Mark III sets in service, however the second batch of Mark III sets has begun to arrive and set 429-432 started its tests a few days ago before entering service. Such tests require the set to undergo 80 km of running during the night, 8 hours of testing during the daytime, and a few runs with passengers onboard.
The Mark III SkyTrain, like all other trains in the system, are fully automated powered by linear motors, but these are the first to have walk-through carriages throughout the whole four-car set. Previous Mark II trains are coupled in pairs (cannot walk between cars 2 and 3) and Mark I trains have a shorter body with all cars detached on the inside running in a 6-car formation since late 2016. Identical trains also operate on the Kelana Jaya Line on the rapidKL system in Kuala Lumpur which I filmed last year. Their units lack transverse seats while its bench seats are hard plastic, and are configured with different sounding motors and different HVAC units.
In contrast to the last Mark III video last year, the section here is part of the initial SkyTrain segment opened in January 1986, running from Waterfront to New Westminster. On the guideway east of Main Street-Science World, it has a slightly different design as that 1 km section was a demo segment completed in 1983. The simple design of the stations and the use of automated trains make the SkyTrain resemble quite a bit to the Docklands Light Railway in London, which I have a video of it that I'll post soon.
Coming from Montreal to Vancouver on this trip, I was on Air Canada's Boeing 737 MAX C-FSES on December 8, and that I will post later in the month.

Welcome to my first international flight in over 2 and a half years! On 12 November 2022, I flew from Vancouver to Amsterdam to start my two week solo European vacation, visiting the Netherlands, Lithuania, and Germany. Although I did not film much from this flight, having prioritized memory card space for other footage on my trip, I really enjoyed this flight as the food and service were fantastic, and the economy class on the A330 was comfortable and well designed.
This flight is special as PH-AOC was the only remaining A330 in the old livery (the only other aircraft in the old livery was a 737-800). This A330 flight meant it was on one of its last flights in this livery before repainting into the new livery at the end of November 2022. As my first time on KLM, the first impressions was great, that I can definitely recommend if you're planning a trip across the Atlantic.

Here's a ride on one of JetSet's new hybrid buses between the terminals at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and the JetSet Parking precinct, located about 600 metres east of the airport. This is their free shuttle service, and has pickup/drop-off points at the domestic, international, and US areas and a few such points inside the parking lot itself. This bus features the BAE HybriDrive HDS200 powertrain, which, not counting operator-specific customizations, are identical to the Nova Bus LFS hybrids of the Quebec transit agencies affiliated with ATUQ, which includes STM Montreal, STL Laval, RTL Longueuil, STO Gatineau, STS Sherbrooke, STTR Trois-Rivières, RTC Quebec, STL Lévis, and STS Saguenay. As such, JetSet is believed to be the only operator of a BAE Nova Bus outside of Quebec. These were purchased early in 2016 to replace a fleet of ElDorado buses.
As JetSet only operates one route, there is no need for a stop request bell and stop announcements, so the driver will ask where your car is parked, and on the return trip, which area to be dropped off (domestic, international, or US). The parking lot is shown at 3:27 and the return trip on 173 is shown shortly afterward.

On 22-23 February 2023, I attended the Frayme Learning Institute as part of the Groundbreaker network. Frayme is an organization that partners with service providers to improve access to mental health resources nationwide. In our Learning Institute, we've had a multitude of mental health service providers display in an exhibition format, as well as presenters from them leading workshops, panelist sessions, and keynote speeches from key people who work in the field of mental health. Our theme was Great Big Stories, reflecting that a key part of mental health care is personal storytelling of lived experience and other kinds of experiences.
Our 2023 event was held in the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver, the first time that Frayme has ever had an event on the West Coast. Frayme is headquartered in Ottawa as a subsidiary of The Royal, a specialist mental health provider providing treatment to people with complex mental health conditions. The event has a lot of similarity to jack.org's National Jack Summit, the main difference with Frayme being more of an exhibition format and jack.org being more of a hands-on format in delivery. We very much enjoyed the fabulous evening receptions (two different events) on the first two days, as well as the amazing food and meeting new people there.
Stay tuned for the next Frayme Learning Institute on 21-22 February 2024, there will be a lot of exciting things coming!

Here's the first leg of the last segment on the multi-city itinerary with Finnair, which was YUL-(LHR)-HEL on 9 May, HEL-HKG on 13 May, and HKG-(HEL-LHR)-YUL on 12 July. While the experience was similar to my previous flight on Finnair, there were some noticeable changes to the "soft" product, most notably the beautiful boarding music that really enhanced the brand, and also a new safety video with a softer tone. And finally, the colours of the northern lights were projected to the ceiling near the end of the flight (at 26:00), which was really nice.

Here's a late night ride on the Hammersmith & City line on a Bombardier S7 stock set 334, where I filmed from Paddington to Great Portland Street, then from Kings Cross St. Pancras to Barbican. I had just got off the GWR Class 43 HST from Swindon after a long day traveling to Yeovil, and here I traveled from Paddington to West Ham before changing to a Jubilee line train to Canning Town, then a DLR service to Royal Albert.
Bit of a unique perspective in some places especially when entering Edgware Road, and most of the trip was filmed when there was few people inside. The train got quite busy after Liverpool Street so I stopped filming from then.
192 S7 and S8 stock trainsets were built for the subsurface lines, with 8-car trains on the Metropolitan line, and 7-car trains on the Circle, District, and Hammersmith & City lines.

Today is the inaugural day of the operation of the Tuas West Extension, from Gul Circle to Tuas Link. The extension started construction in 2012 and was finished in 2016. It was delayed by half a year in order to install a new signalling system throughout the entire line. The extension was first presented to the public on June 16 in a free open house prior to the official first day of operation today.
A ride from Joo Koon to Tuas Link (4 new stations) on C151 set 029/030 is featured. The extension is part of Singapore SMRT's East-West Line and now has 33 stations on the main line, excluding the two stops on the Changi Airport branch.

Here is Réseau de transport de la Capitale 1513, a Nova Bus LFS HEV on route 21 Place d'Youville. As I found that my previous video of the RTC hybrid was too shaky, I decided to film it again, and also because it is now in the summer the windows are more clear and free from the snow outside. The A/C was good, but was not quite even and was a little hot in the back near the engine, so I thought this was a point where it could be improved.
