During my formative years I have always loved asking lots of questions, going deep and trying to understand the essence of the vision of each of the great musicians and educators with whom I have been fortunate enough to come into contact.
What I have discovered is that taking your drum technique to the next level is not about how many drum books you complete and how many hours you practice. It's about what you practice and especially how you practice. That's in a nutshell the masters’ approach.
So I decided to combine all the knowledge gathered in over two decades and synthesize it in a comprehensive 500 pages drum book with a simple philosophy: boost your drum technique so much that you never have to worry about it anymore.
In this free excerpt I'd like to share with you 55 examples picked from the 3000+ exercises included in the method. I wanted to arrange this booklet so that it's like a mini course, that you can use to instantly see results.

Tweaking and combining parameters like swing levels, Hi-Hat articulations or playing ahead or behind the beat, can turn even the simplest groove into something completely new, fresh and incredibly interesting.

Music is about colors. And drumming is pretty much based on colors.
There are so many nuances, variations, details and flavors we can add to a song with our instrument.
The Hi-Hat is definitely the part of the drum set that allows for the most expressiveness.
In this booklet I wanted to gather a bunch of ideas that I have collected over the years, which are quite advanced but also incredibly fun to play and to include in our music.
I have divided them in 2 categories:
- Embellishments played with the hands, in 8ths, 16ths, triplets and even shuffle.
- Examples that use the left foot to play the Hi-Hat pedal (in which case we keep time on the Ride cymbal).

Polyrhythms are one of the most interesting tools available to any musician. They can be used to unleash our creativity on many levels.
I think polyrhythms are fascinating to play, to hear, and first of all to understand.
They make things more interesting by adding variety to our phrasing, by giving us new ideas and also by increasing our technique.

Once we have spent some time working on various techniques, exercises, grooves and phrases, if we want to take things to the next level it’s essential to try performing rhythms and fills freely, in the form of brief solos, so as to filter and automate what has been learned.
To illustrate the point, I have recorded a bunch of solos in different styles.
These are unedited, spontaneous, in the moment performances, and I hope you'll enjoy them!
If you want to learn how to improvise a drum solo check out the article with the full lesson:
