What does "this generation" mean relative to Jesus' prophecy in Matthew 24:34? According to McPhalen, it does not refer to the passing of the first century generation.
His explanation is novel to me, but you may judge for yourself his position. We show why this verse remains a staple in the preterist imminent texts.

The Future of the Past End of All Things 2 Peter Chapter 3 demonstrates the Covenant change from Torah to the New Covenant. John MacArthur views the end times as the destruction of the Universe. This view has dominated the thinking of Christians. Many no longer believe in Christ's return.
They cannot reconcile a coming that was at hand, near or imminent in the first century. The scoffers mocked the apostles. In this video, we analyze the time "since the fathers fell asleep" showing a future that was then, but not now.
The futurism expressed today by men who claim to be in the know is not the eschatology of the Bible.

The gathering of the elect from the 4 winds is the gathering of Israel in their last days, i.e. the last days of the Jewish age. This gathering was consummated when the temple fell in Jerusalem in 70 AD.
Those who study Matthew 24 and the destruction of Jerusalem overlook verse 31 that speaks of the gathering of the elect, all of which would happened before that generation passed away, Matt. 24:34.
There is no other or future gathering of Israel spoken of in Scripture. The remnant of Israel was gathered into Christ for salvation. The unbelievers were destroyed. The Most High would not gather Israel in their unbelief.
