I decided to do some measurements today along with my observations. From 9ft to 0.5ft over a distance of 18.1 miles. What we see from the 2 higher observations is shore to shore with a tiny amount of refraction to the lower part of the objects. The lowest 2 observations were great, as not only did we see buildings that should be gone on a spheroid earth, but we also got a very defined reflection of the buildings, especially in the clock tower (barrow town hall) Now that refraction layer doesn't stop at the perceived horizon, it goes below it. Fake waves seen cresting. All this along with the narrowing of the camera angle resulted in a blockage of the lower parts of the buildings due to atmospheric conditions and nothing else. No magic curvature and no water spinning on a ball at 1000mph over a giant bulge. Okay, so on last nights show, the rumpus and I were disagreeing with the size of the umbra cast on the earth from the moon. Of course we are delving in to the world of the globe here, so as a proof of concept, I have made to scale a small test that should give a fairly accurate result in regards to the size of the shadow cast. This is an astonishing live video that blows the ball model and all the standard refraction nonsense entirely out of the window. From Anchorsholme beach England, I look across the sea at Barrow in Furness. My elevation changes from roughly 4.5 to 5ft originally, down to an elevation in the region of 1ft. Gps for the images I took are as follows 53°52'16.943"N 3°3'15.414"W This elevation change blows the optics wide open. Initial footage shows a mess of refraction and nothing distinguishable. Once lowered to 1ft then the camera actually images the land from a position UNDER the refraction layer. Essentially we peek beneath the blanket. I also have a series of still images from the same 1ft elevation that show the refraction and mirroring layer in the taller structures whilst the lower ones stay completely un touched.
