Owen Shalk is a writer of short stories, novels, political analyses, and essays on film and literature. He is a columnist at Canadian Dimension, and has written for Alborada, Monthly Review, Protean Magazine, and many other publications. His most recent book is entitled "Canada in Afghanistan: A story of military, diplomatic, political and media failure, 2003-2023." It’s published this year by Lorimer and available online in paperback and e-book formats and at better bookstores across Canada. Winnipeg, April 13, 2018: Just hours before the United States launched missile attacks on Damascus and Homs, peace activists rallied outside the building housing the US Consulate to speak out against the war and Trump's declared plan to expand it.
The picket was organized by the Manitoba Peace Council.

Gerry Caplan is a former CUSO field officer, author of The Betrayal of Africa, a weekly online columnist for the Globe and Mail and a featured television political commentator.
Mr. Caplan was the keynote speaker at a dinner held in Winnipeg December 10, 2011 to mark the 50th anniversary of CUSO and the 63rd anniversary of the Univeral Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations Dec. 10, 1948.
This event was sponsored by the University of Winnipeg Global College, CUPE Manitoba, the Manitoba Council for International Co-operation and CUSO-VSO. It was held at the Union Centre in downtown Winnipeg.
