The Fed 2 was the first Soviet improvement on the pre-war Leica design, and makes a handsome addition to any analog rangefinder collection.

The most anxiety-inducing part of developing film at home is transferring the film from the cartridge to the reel. This is how I do it.

I'm probably giving this essay far more attention than it deserves, but recently I've seen two well known figures in the analog scene whom I respect comment on it, so I figure I'd add my two cents worth in a manner that has nothing to do with photography.

If you can learn this simple trick then you can save money by investing in pre-AI Nikon gear which sells at a considerable discount vis-a-vis later AI cameras and lenses.

This is where knowledge can save you money. The "point and shoot" consumer plastic of the 80s and 90s is grossly overpriced because they were designed to be idiot-proof by offering automatic film loading, focusing and exposure. The Retinette, in contrast, is a compact 35 for photographers who can tie their laces all by themselves.
