Does a Crosley or Victrola DESTROY your vinyl? #shorts
There are plenty of entirely legitimate reasons to recommend not buying cheap record players from brands like Crosley and Victrola. But the common claim that they "destroy" records or "chew up the grooves" in normal use is an exaggerated myth that is scaring away newcomers and giving a false impression of the format's fragility.
If you have one of these battery testers and it isn't working right anymore, don't throw it out... I just discovered a free and super easy repair to get it working again and fix a design flaw.

Your options for adding a sound card to an IBM PS/2 with the MCA bus are limited, but the IBM M-Audio Capture & Playback Adapter (M-ACPA) is somewhat easier to find and less expensive than the rest. It has a few quirks, but once set up properly, it sounds quite good.

A 1985 VHS videotape produced by manufacturers of RADAR detectors. Original description: In 1979 a Miami Florida TV news program aired an investigative report showing Traffic RADAR clocking a tree at 86 MPH. A Dade County judge, The Honorable Alfred Nesbitt, just happened to be watching and was quite surprised at what he saw, to say the least.
For years police officers have testified that police RADAR is accurate... beyond reproach. Now he was seeing the little black box telling a lot of little white lies. In the months that followed, Judge Nesbitt sought the truth. He heard testimony from RADAR experts praising the device and witnessed first-hand demonstrations of its many quirks and shortcomings. After all the evidence had been examined, his landmark ruling rocked the police community. RADAR was ruled inadmissible as evidence in speeding cases, primarily due to its fallibility.
This video documents the history of RADAR and the many problems associated with its use. Judge Nesbitt himself will walk you through a RADAR trial and experts will demonstrate many of the more common errors that occur. Drivers who have never been in a courtroom will find this video excellent preparation for their own defense of a RADAR based speeding ticket.

A quick overview and test of the Orban Optimod-FM 8000A audio processor. This one was manufactured in 1976 and recapped in 1995. At the end I show using MPXTool on my computer as an FM modulation monitor and spectrum analyzer, connected to the Optimod's MPX output. I demonstrated the Optimod with no additional processing ahead of it, but the 8000 works best with an AGC ahead of it, such as an Aphex Compellor or CRL TVS-3001. It is capable of up to 15 dB of gain reduction, but I found that it sounds best if you use no more than 7 or 8 dB.
I have since sold this Optimod 8000 and upgraded to an 8100, which will get its own video demonstration in due time, but the 8000 works very well considering its age, and is still in use by many radio stations today.

A neat little device for measuring sound levels, ranging from quiet to dangerously loud. I use it to measure the normal listening level of my headphones, and it turns out I'm playing them just below the OSHA guidelines for hearing protection (85 dB).

This Panasonic Omnimovie PV-220D from 1986 is one of the few VHS camcorders made in the mid '80s using a Newvicon tube image sensor, instead of a solid state CCD. By this time tube image sensors were falling out of favor due to their large size and higher power consumption, however in terms of low light sensitivity and overall image quality they actually outperformed a lot of the early CCDs. This camcorder is also in amazingly good condition for its age, and works perfectly!

The result of a bad logic board that refuses to boot when any SIMMs (even known good ones) are installed. Using only the onboard RAM, it does boot and run, but the video has graphical corruption.
