DeSantis Sends More Florida Cops To Texas Border In Latest Political Stunt
Florida governor Ron DeSantis is sending even more Florida cops and National Guard members to the Texas border this week, in a political stunt that he believes will help his bid for the GOP's presidential nomination. All of DeSantis' actions recently have been geared towards a national audience, regardless of the negative impact that they are having on his state - and those negative impacts are being felt all over Florida right now. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced this week that he is sending hundreds upon hundreds and hundreds of more police officers and National Guard members from the state of Florida down to the Texas border because Ron DeSantis wants to show the nation that he is definitely a Republican that hates immigrants. So you should vote for him in 2024. This is nothing more than a political stunt meant to gain the votes of the anti-immigration crowd within the Republican party. When Ron DeSantis finally announces he's running for president, which again is pretty much expected at any point now, it is very clear DeSantis is running for president and this is just one of those actions that he's only doing because he wants to run. Here's what he is sending to the Texas border. 800 members of the Florida National Guard, 200 agents and teams of 40 from the Department of Law Enforcement, 101 State Highway Patrol troopers 101. Like you had to throw the extra one on there. You didn't wanna make it an even number. I guess 20 agents from the State Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Department of Emergency Management, five fixed wing aircrafts, 17 unmanned drones and 10 waterborne vessels.

Why? I know Republicans love to go out there and tell us that, oh my God, people are crossing the border every second. There's millions of 'em. It's just hoards of immigrants coming across every second. It's like a horrible game of, you know, tag and everybody's running around crazy, but the people who've actually been to the border, which by the way does include Republican members of Congress who've gone down there to find the immigrants, they've never seen 'em. Don't you find that weird? Don't you find it weird that when Ted Cruz has made his multiple little trips to the border, even the ones at night trying to find the migrants crossing that they couldn't find any of 'em. That doesn't strike anybody else's odd. Like you say, these hoards are coming across. You've gone there with your night vision goggles and your flashlights to try to find them and you couldn't find them.

It's almost like it's not actually real. I know we have tons of immigrants coming across, I get that, but are they coming across illegally as Republicans claim? Because Republicans don't ever differentiate. They just say, you know, X million amount of immigrants have come across, but if they come across legally, there's nothing wrong with that and you don't make the distinction cuz you don't say they're coming across illegally. You just say they're coming across semantics at work, folk. You always have to pay attention to the words that they use. And if you don't wanna just rely on a couple videos of Republicans unable to locate the migrants. How about the words of the people that have been sent down to the southern border themselves? I mean, Texas has been sending people, Florida sent people, North Dakota sent people. I mean, what about all the people they've capture, captured?

Well, according to interviews with the law enforcement officials sent down to the southern border, they've said their board as hell, there's nothing to do. Instead of going out there and catching these migrant hoards that are running across the border, they're sitting there playing games on their phone, worrying about what's happening back home, worrying about losing their job.
