Wes Moore joined the US Army to pay for college, but the experience became core to who he is. In this heartfelt talk, the the paratrooper and captain—who went on to write "The Other Wes Moore"—explains the shock of returning home from Afghanistan. He shares the single phrase he heard from civilians on repeat, and shows why it's just not sufficient. It's a call for all of us to ask veterans to tell their stories — and listen.

A walk through Soviet Russian history and the realization that math is the best vehicle to deliver children to their fullest potential. In the midst of the Space Race, Soviet Russia was tasked with developing a generation of minds who could out-innovate and out-create the United States. The system of math education that was developed in result did much more than launch rockets into space - it proved that a child’s abilities are not pre-set at birth, and that math is the best tool to deliver children to their fullest potential. Masha Gershman is the Director of Outreach at Russian School of Mathematics, a rapidly growing K-12 afterschool mathematics program, with a mission to instill in every child a strong foundation and appreciation for mathematics. Today, RSM serves over 15,000 students of all levels and backgrounds across the United States. Yet, our proudest achievement remains are our outstanding students and accomplished alumni across the US. Masha joined RSM in 2013 to help the company spread the message that advanced mathematics, when taught appropriately, is not only within the grasp of every child, but is also a crucial skill for achieving success in any field. Wendy Woods reveals the powerful impact of collective cooperation in the social sector. Using the examples of different NGOs, each one working independently to eradicate malaria, she explains how their individualistic approach reduced their overall impact and resulted in fatal inefficiencies. When they finally aligned their overall mission, malaria incidents fell drastically in the region.
Wendy is the global head of BCG’s Social Impact Practice and spends much of her time leading BCG’s work in global public health. She helps organizations develop strategies, create public private partnerships, and improve their operational effectiveness to deliver health interventions. Wendy has worked on HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, diarrheal disease, pneumonia and oncology issues across drugs, vaccines and diagnostics. Wendy has worked for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris and as a Senior Economist for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
