The f(-x) Lessons coincide with the Beginner Lessons [2021] - the video footage is reflected across the vertical axis so that you can see all of the movements done on the opposite side. Of course, there are some downsides - my directions and the video captions are as they were in the original - I've used an f(-x) in these videos just as a reminder of these things. Hopefully these lessons can assist those that are left-handed or want to develop the other side of a technique than what I demonstrate in some given lesson.

The second lesson in a new, experimental series, Lessons Made of Sound.
The idea in this series is to provide interesting and useful content that only requires listening, none of the video components are critical to the actual content.
In this lesson, I use the 5 belts in Jiu Jitsu as starting point to discuss 5 layers of understanding or levels of analysis, with each subsequent layer corresponding to a specific belt rank.
While this can, at first, come across as a somewhat arbitrary way of dividing up student progression over time, in later lessons perhaps I can provide a more convincing set of ideas with regards to belts as symbols, as functions, as validator nodes, etc.
That's a future lesson, in this lesson, let's focus on what you might want to direct your attention towards first, then second, then third, etc. Let's also discuss why the later levels of analysis [say, purple, brown and black belt] might simply be unavailable or very hard to concretize before thoroughly exploring the preceding levels [white and blue].
Finally, let's see if your own experiences advancing through these ranks did align in some way with the ideas I put forward here - were some areas more interesting to you? Do you recall other areas being more challenging to sustain with your own supply of curiosity? Maybe there's something about the 'blue belt blues' we can discover from these experiences...

If you want to support the creation of validator nodes on Ethereum's Proof of Stake to cover the overhead of running a school [a model I intend to make available to other brazilian jiu jitsu school owners ASAP] you can also do that! It would also let me know that my audience has folks interested in these topics.

The 9th lesson of our beginner series is all about the Triangle. We look at the basic shape of a Front Triangle done from guard and how to verify you are correctly situating your legs. Also to start, we talk about two types of Front Triangle from guard, a Frame Triangle and a Folding Triangle.
We go over some standard methods of getting into a trap Triangle, adjusting the trap Triangle into a Figure-Four Lock, and finishing the Triangle as a submission. Along the way, we address the main problems associated with the Triangle, that being adjusting the trap Triangle into a Figure-Four Lock due to problems from Stacking and Posturing. All of the various steps involved lead us to the same single-finishing cue - put the lock of the Triangle on the back of the head.
Enjoy :]
