I had the opportunity to speak to Daniel Stenberg, creator of cURL, on a livestream recently. This was a fascinating conversation as not only did I get to learn more about how cURL came about, but how it is used in every day life and perhaps most significantly for me, how Daniel has managed to transform his love of Open Source into a full time job.
For those of you unfamiliar with cURL, this stands for “client URL”, a command line tool that developers use to transfer data to and from a server. Daniel started the project in 1998 as he wanted to download HTTP to make a currency rate translator for the IUC bot that he was working on.
Daniel worked on the project in his spare time for several years, until one day he decided to transition to working on cURL full time. In order to do this, Daniel started out by selling support services to companies who had issues with cURL and wanted to ensure everything went smoothly going forward.

Git is used on most projects. Here is part 5 of the 10 most useful git commands
Git conflicts occur when the same line in the same file is changed in different commits or branches. These can be avoided if your branch is kept up to date as often as possible. When git conflicts do happen, do not worry, they are not that scary. In this video I will show you how to resolve your git conflicts.

How quickly do you think you can build an API? Creating SOMETHING is the best way to learn faster, so that you can then add the features you want.
I'm going to be using NextJS (the React Framework) as it gives you all the features you need for production, such as: hybrid static & server rendering, TypeScript support, smart bundling, route pre-fetching. For more information check out their website on: https://nextjs.org
I would love to know what features and bugs you come up with after you follow this video, so don't forget to comment below!

Web Engineering Unconference Europe September 13th - 15th 2019
Welcome to the event for open source community!
What is an unconference and why you should go! Join me at Web Engineering Palma.
Videos from last year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQb7xTHpKcU&list=PL4lTrYcDuAfwG61gYvqsKiH8J8iVZdqq7
WEucEU is an interdisciplinary and multilingual Unconference presented by Boot e.V.
Be part of the third Web Engineering Unconference Europe (former PHP Unconference Europe) based on the wonderful island of Majorca. Meet great guys'n'gals, sun & fun, gripping topics without the hassle of a conference.
Topics. No agenda!
The force is with you! Decide what you want to talk and hear about. We have seen topics evolve out of nothing which became brilliant workshops. There are no speakers in advance. The whole agenda will be voted by attendees on Saturday morning. Every session is 45 minutes long, every day.
Open Source. All web applications
WEucEU is dedicated to every web application. No borders in apps, topics or subjects. Every person who attends is a highly engaged web worker. There is no point in searching for the same solutions over and over again. Let's find them together, once! No matter if Java, PHP, Node JS, MySQL, Elasticsearch or whatever.
People. Tech community
Catch up with an enthusiastic group of web engineers who are crazy about web applications. Discussing and exchanging are vital parts of our daily business. No matter if Engineer, DevOps, Architect, Product Manager - everybody is welcome.
Breaks. Again and again
The conference center has a roof top, very basic but outside. And we do have a constantly open coffee bar, to support our attendees in chatting, exchanging between sessions or even in extending a session.
Fun. Leisure time
Besides the fact that we are all a little bit crazy for web topics, we will enjoy the evenings together. There will be lots of time and options to connect with each other and expand networks.
Speaker skills. Chance to improve
Those days are gone where tech people can be quiet. Use this great opportunity to gain speaking experience or improve your existing skills.
This Friday you have the opportunity to personally develop yourself during a workshop. We will offer two session at the same time.
Start: 3 pm
Location: conference location
Workshop 1
This workshop will be held by Lars Jankowfsky and Thomas Lohner. It will about personal development in a tech environment. Kind of roller coster drive - they share their personal learnings beside codes, hacks and fuck-ups - it will be fun, it will be intense. Save your seat below "Tickets".
Workshop No. 2 - under construction ?
