Contrary to popular belief, only 14% of the money that belongs to the nation's top 1% comes from inheritance. For the vast majority, wealth has been self-generated. Seamus helps Bob come to the realization that a larger inheritance tax does more harm than it does good.

Bob can't get anyone to trade him technology for ripened taco meat, but he's still not sold on the use of money. After all, inflation steals some of the value of money over time. But is that a problem inherent in money, or is it because of governments poof-ing money into existence to pay for things they can't actually afford?

People are fleeing states like California and New York in droves… What gives? As new residents pile in the neighborhood, Ron piles some dogs on the grill and questions why life in California is becoming unlivable. Seamus explains how restrictive taxes, zoning laws, and other mysterious policies are forcing residents away from once-wonderful states.

When Seamus is arrested for spying on other people’s conversations about economics, it becomes pretty clear that the government doesn’t actually frown on monitoring the actions and communications of individuals. They just frown on OTHER people doing it. Despite the initial outcry when Edward Snowden leaked the details of the US government’s domestic surveillance apparatus to the public, the broad and often warrant-less collection of metadata continues to happen. Constant surveillance leads to serious problems, not least of which is self-censorship.

What’s the best way to help people? No, it’s not through government aid or tax-funded social programs, but private charity.

"71% of all contributions to charity are from private individuals. That number rises to 80% if you include all of the money the deceased have left to charities in their will!"
https://givingusa.org/giving-usa-2017-total-charitable-donations-rise-to-new-high-of-390-05-billion/
This last year charitable donations in the US exceeded 390 billion dollars, which is an all time high.

Roughly 70% of all money budgeted for government assistance gets spent upholding and maintaining the bureaucracies charged with the task of helping the poor. When you pay your taxes for the war on poverty, it’s more likely your money will end up in the pocket of a middle class public sector worker than with a poor person in need.

Private charities only spend 30% on infrastructure and employees, and the other 70% on the poor.
