What Every New Off-Roader Needs To Know!
Here is our list of what we think are the must useful and most important tips for new off-roaders and people new to the 4x4 world. Most of these tips we had to learn the hard way so hopefully you can learn from our mistakes.
#1: Never go off road alone, even on an easy 4x4 trail or fire road
#2: Join a local 4x4 club or group
#3: Be prepared for anything to go wrong - at least with the basics
#4: Air down your tires! (and make sure you can air back up at the end of the trail)
#5: Practice! Hit those trails often, starting with the easy stuff, then challenge yourself
#6: Learn how to use all of your 4x4 equipment and when to use it
#7: Always know where you’re going
#8: Tread lightly and clean up after yourself!

Zach and Tana of Stumpers Off Road Jeep Club having fun driving their Jeep Wranglers in the "Bullfrog" area of Cougar Buttes near Johnson Valley, CA. Bullfrog is more of an off-road "area" than a 4x4 "trail" - You can drive around for hours on Bullfrog and never see the same rocks twice.. and get lost multiple times - this is why Bullfrog is one of our favorite areas at Cougar Buttes.
Cougar Buttes is located just off Camp Rock Road, a bit northeast of Highway 247 in Lucerne Valley - this is often referred to as part of Johnson Valley but it is technically Lucerne Valley. Part of Cougar Buttes is now included in the famous King of The Hammers race course so that should give an idea of how difficult this area is for off-roading.

This review is a little longer than I'd like but I wanted to discuss why keeping swaybar connected on the road is important, how the anti-swaybar works, and how it compares to the Anti-Rock swaybar system.
UPDATES & Corrections:
The "flopping around" I refer to is better known as body roll.
I mentioned that disconnecting your sway-bar fully disconnects your Jeep body from the frame/axel. This is not quite 100% correct. If it were, the body might fall off on the trail!
The statement about one side of the Antirock "forcing the other wheel down" was taken from various information around the web. One commenter posted that this is "incorrect" - however that commenter left no supporting information so we can't tell if he was just a troll or in fact, correct. So take the "forces the other wheel down" statement with a grain of salt. If you have information about if/how the Antirock increases traction by forcing "the other" or both wheels down, please leave a comment.
