The Biggest Stock Market "Melt Up" In US History
Over the past several months, we have witnessed one of the greatest stock market rallies in American history. The S&P 500 has gone 70 days in a row without a 1 percent loss, and most weeks we have seen one daily surge after another. If stock prices were exploding because the underlying U.S. economy was performing extremely well, we would have reason to celebrate. Unfortunately, that is not the case at all. In fact, last week I shared 12 signs that the economy is actually slowing down substantially. Instead, this stock market “melt up” is being largely fueled by reckless intervention by the Federal Reserve. The Fed’s balance sheet has been ballooning once again, and investors know that stock prices tend to go up significantly when that is happening. So right now Wall Street is in the midst of a raucous party, and everything will be wonderful as long as stock prices continue to move in the right direction.

Indigenous settlement of Vancouver began more than 10,000 years ago, and the city is on the traditional and unceded territories of the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil-Waututh (Burrard) peoples. The beginnings of the modern city, which was originally named Gastown, grew around the site of a makeshift tavern on the western edges of Hastings Mill that was built on July 1, 1867, and owned by proprietor Gassy Jack. The original site is marked by the Gastown steam clock. Gastown then formally registered as a townsite dubbed Granville, Burrard Inlet. The city was renamed "Vancouver" in 1886, through a deal with the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). The Canadian Pacific transcontinental railway was extended to the city by 1887. The city's large natural seaport on the Pacific Ocean became a vital link in the trade between Asia-Pacific, East Asia, Europe, and Eastern Canada.
Vancouver has hosted many international conferences and events, including the 1954 Commonwealth Games, UN Habitat I, Expo 86, APEC Canada 1997, the World Police and Fire Games in 1989 and 2009; several matches of 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup including the finals at BC Place in Downtown Vancouver,[18] and the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics which were held in Vancouver and Whistler, a resort community 125 km (78 mi) north of the city. As of 2016, Port Metro Vancouver is the fourth-largest port by tonnage in the Americas, the busiest and largest in Canada, and the most diversified port in North America. While Money Laundering remains its largest industry, Vancouver is well known as an urban centre surrounded by nature, making tourism its second-largest industry. Major film production studios in Vancouver and nearby Burnaby have turned Greater Vancouver and nearby areas into one of the largest film production centres in North America, earning it the nickname "Hollywood North"

New York Gov. Hochul tells Christian worshippers: 'God wants you to be vaccinated'
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul told Christian parishioners on Sunday that God wants them to be vaccinated.
Hochul, who assumed office last month after Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned amid controversy, made the remark while speaking with worshippers at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn.
"Yes, I know you're vaccinated. They're the smart ones, but you know, there are people out there who aren't listening to God and what God wants. You know this. You know who they are," Hochul said.

"I need you to be my apostles. I need you to go out and talk about it and say, 'We owe this to each other. We love each other,'" she continued. "Jesus taught us to love one another. And how do you show that love, but to care about each other enough to say, 'Please get vaccinated because I love you. I want you to live.'"
The governor's comments came one day before a mandate requiring healthcare workers to be vaccinated went into effect on Monday.
State officials expect healthcare staffing shortages as the statewide mandate takes effect, prompting Hochul to announce a plan of action on Saturday, including the possibility of calling in the National Guard and declaring a state of emergency to allow vaccinated professionals with licenses outside of the state and outside of the United States to practice in New York, NPR reports.
"We are still in a battle against COVID to protect our loved ones, and we need to fight with every tool at our disposal," Hochul said.

Employees terminated for refusing to get vaccinated will not be eligible for unemployment benefits unless they receive a doctor-approved exemption, according to the state labor department.

minimum wage is that it might increase unemployment. That's an argument free-market economists often put forward. The argument is that there's only so much money for payroll, and if wages go up, business owners won't be able to afford as large a staff. That's a valid concern, especially for small operators, though real-world data doesn't necessarily bear that out for the economy as a whole.
The U.K. brought in a national minimum wage in 1999, for example, but unemployment actually fell between 1999 and 2007 despite regular increases in the wage. Unemployment didn't spike until 2008 when the Great Recession disrupted most of the world's large economies.
Driving Up Pricing
Classical economic theory also predicts that when wages go up, prices go up. That may be true, at least to a point, though economists are divided on the subject. Both sides can draw on studies and stats to make their cases, but that theoretical argument doesn't matter as much as your own experience, in your own business. If payroll is one of your highest costs, and you employ a lot of minimum-wage staff, you might well find yourself needing to raise prices after a wage increase.

No one expects the Bank of Canada to move rates later this week — or anytime soon for that matter — but National Bank Financial (NBF) would like the central bank to start paring back its quantitative easing efforts.
In a research note, NBF said the bank’s policy rate is expected to remain at its rock-bottom level of 0.25% at its rate decision on Wednesday, and likely until 2023 at least.
So, while the rate decision “is not in doubt,” NBF said there should be greater debate about the path for quantitative easing (QE) via the Government of Canada Bond Purchase Program.
To that end, NBF believes the central bank is “overdoing it on QE.”
“The bank’s program is proportionately much larger than what the Fed is doing, relative to the size of the economy, population or the deficit,” the report said. “Most striking of all, the BoC’s current QE program is almost six times larger than the Fed when scaled to outstanding bonds.”
Before the pandemic hit, the Bank of Canada owned less than 15% of outstanding federal government bonds, NBF said. Thanks to its QE program, the bank will own around 40% of outstanding federal bonds by the end of 2020 and could be closer to 50% at this time next year, the report suggested.
“Heavy and unrelenting BoC bond buying has already resulted in market distortions, including a noted erosion in secondary market liquidity down the curve… the place where liquidity is perhaps most vital. Barring operational changes, this market dysfunctionality will get worse,” it said.
NBF argued that the central bank should look to pare back the pace of buying to bring it more in line with the Fed’s level.
“If markets are telling us anything, it’s that buying C$5 billion/week of outstanding [federal government] bonds takes too much product out of the market,” it said.
“A sensible solution would see the BoC slow the pace of buying mostly down the curve, making less of an adjustment five years and out,” it suggested.
