Pro-Palestine, pro-refugee protesters arrests in Cannon House Office Building rotunda
"United We Dream" activists laid down with roses in silent protest and were arrested inside the Cannon House Office Building on Thursday, demanding a permanent ceasefire and protections for refugees
"Free, free Palestine. Free, free Palestine," sang one lone protester breaking the silence of the demonstration as officers arrested the last of the activists and put roses left behind into the trash.
"We're gonna open this back up, great job guys" a Capitol Police supervisor told officers as the arrests concluded.

"Merrick Garland and those who work in the Department of Justice are the puppets, not the puppet masters," said Pulitzer-winning journalist Chris Hedges Saturday outside the DOJ.
"The engine driving the lynching of Julian Assange is not here on Pennsylvania Avenue. It is in Langley, Virginia, located at a complex we will never be allowed to surround, the Central Intelligence Agency. It is driven by a secretive inner state, one where we do not count, in the mad pursuit of empire and ruthless exploitation.
"We cannot fight on behalf of Julian Assange unless we are clear who we are fighting against," he then described as "A global billionaire class who have orchestrated a social inequality rivaled by Pharaonic Egypt."

About six civilians were reported injured in the Gaza Strip Friday night amidst shelling by Israel, as rockets were fired from Gaza toward Israel. The exchange of missile fire represents a massive escalation in the conflict, which the The Palestinian Ministry of Health says has already taken the lives of ten civilians.
This comes just weeks after President Biden's trip to the region to meet with officials on both sides.

Amidst Trump's "zero tolerance" policy against illegal immigrants, three congresspeople and hundreds of activists gathered to speak out against the practice of separating detained parents from their children. While child detention has been a feature of previous administrations, the practice has been more widely used and criticized amidst with the new policy.
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, who visited one detention facility, said the parents were often deceived into thinking the children were being taken momentarily for a photo, a bath, or court, and then never returned. "Not one of these women had even been able to say goodbye to their children," she explained, prompting the crowd to chant "shame! shame!"
"If president Trump were listening, I would say 'think of your children. Think about your wife herself,'" Jayapal told News2Share. "Stop separating families. You are bringing America down."

Activists with "Shut Down DC" and the Sunrise Movement used strobe lights, instruments and chants to "wake up Lindsey Graham" outside the senator's house in Washington D.C. to demand he not confirm a replacement for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court until after the 2021 Inauguration.
Some of the activists tried to enter Senator Graham's front yard and knock on the door. Police formed a line preventing most from doing so, and forced one protester who got through off the yard. They did not make arrests.
"He said, 'Use my words against me!'" chanted the activists, referencing Graham's allusion to a situation like this when he was defending not confirming Merrick Garland in 2016.
"I want you to use my words against me," Graham said during a senate hearing in 2016. "If there's a Republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say Lindsey Graham said let's let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination."
Activists held a banner reading "We Can't Sleep So Neither Should Lindsey" while loudly playing back a recording of his own words from 2016.
“In the spirit of RBG, we will not allow a double standard in how our Congress deals with late-term Supreme Court appointments,” said Aura Angelica, an organizer with Sunrise DC. “Senator Graham told us he wouldn’t allow a Supreme Court nominee during an election year-- he told us to use his words against him if a seat opened up this late in the game-- we’re here today, doing just that.”
"We're using your words against you," wrote an activist in sidewalk chalk in front of the senator's home.
Inspector Robert Glover of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Special Operation Division told an organizer that the protest outside Senator Graham's house was in violation of DC's "Residential Tranquility Act" and that they'd begin arresting if they didn't leave.
He specifically added he'd arrest media at the event as well.
MPD Lieutenant Jason Bagshaw used an amplifier in Inspector Glover's call to issue a first warning to the protesters threatening arrest.
"We will not compromise with a simple-minded racist" an activist replied.
After Lieutenant Bagshaw issued a second arrest warning and ordered protesters to leave southbound, they briefly marched north toward the police, but then turned around leaving the way police told them to.
"You can't stop the revolution!" they chanted. "No justice, no peace!"
"We need a new court," an organizer said as the group marched to the Supreme Court. "We need a court that actually has term limits."
"Expand the court! Expand the court!" the group chanted.
Before wrapping, organizers read out the home address of Kansas Senator Pat Roberts in Alexandria, Virginia, and suggested that he or

Jan 18, 2017. Washington, DC, Dirsken Senate Building - Outside EPA Nominee Scott Pruitt's Hearing
About 75 people showed up Wednesday morning to protest the confirmation hearing of EPA Nominee Scott Pruitt. Protesters lined up for outside the hearing in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, where speakers from the Sierra Club, 350.org, and Food & Water Watch came to speak. Three were arrested.
Activists were not allowed to make noise inside the building and were not allowed to enter the hearing itself.
A woman from the Lakota tribe spoke up, asserting that Pruitt's efforts were in violation of a tribal treaty.
She began to pray publicly and was arrested for "disrupting the peace." As she was arrested, a second activist attempted to hug her and was also arrested. A total of about six police officers were involved.
Minutes later, four police officers escorted Diane Wilson, a Texan shrimp farmer who says her career is jeopardized by Pruitt, out of the hearing. She described herself to the crowd as "basically a bankrupt shrimp farmer." Others tried to get into the meeting, some with signs reading "STOP PRUITT."
Ray Scheinman told News2Share (written verbatim): "everything was chaotic and hectic, but it seemed like everyone waiting to have their voices in the hall agreed with us, as we gained a nod of approval from not only Tim Kaine, but Lindsey Graham as well. Some individuals lined up to sit in the room wore our stickers to demonstrate support in the room. It was evident that those trying to exercise their rights in a public hearing were not admitted or were promptly thrown out"
