Check out my new course! https://bit.ly/36XUXse - How To Start And Run A Successful Drone Business
Drones and Aircraft. Collision Avoidance. Drone Safety Tips
Drones are now commonplace and it is self evident that there is a real risk of conflict between unmanned and manned aircraft.
In some countries, guidelines on the operation of drones have been issued and subsequently some have been enshrined into law.
In the UK, the Civil Aviation Authority supports the development of drones but also recognises the risks.
Rogue operators of drones continue to cause problems, not just for aviators and commercial aircraft, but also for legitimate operators of unmanned aerial vehicles.
There have already been reports from pilots of drones flying dangerously close to aircraft.
In a report published in 2018 the CAA stated that there have been "seven confirmed cases of direct in flight contact between drones and civil or military manned aircraft worldwide".
And while none of those seven were in the UK, the same report goes on to say that there were 59 occasions between April 2016 and March 2017 where UK pilots reported "suspected drones in proximity to their aircraft".
However, as the report reminds us, there is a difference between flying in proximity and actually colliding with an aircraft.
The consequences of such a collision will obviously depend on several factors, not least of which is the size and weight of the UAV and the manned aircraft.
How To Fly Your Drone Legally
Commercial and recreational drones operate from ground level up to a ceiling of 400 feet.
Remember, this is measured AGL, from where the drone pilot is standing.
So if you're on top of a 500' hill or cliff and you launch your drone you can fly up to 400' above you.
This would put your drone 900' above sea level.
Aircraft, except for landing and take off, generally operate above 500 feet above ground level.
However, there are exceptions; low flying military aircraft is one well known example.
Anyone who is familiar with Mach Loop in Wales, or any of the other low flying practice areas, will understand how suddenly such aircraft can appear.
Emergency services helicopters and other helicopter types are also unpredictable in terms of where they may appear below 400 feet.
So the onus remains with the UAV operators to take the necessary precautionary measures.
Situational awareness is essential. Even though a drone pilot may be operating legally with the land owner's permission, checks need to be made for any grass airstrips or private helicopter landing areas nearby.
As the Drone Age evolves the technology is maturing. For some time now DJI's software has disabled flight of their drones within the proxmity of airfields around the world.
So it's a sign of positive progress

2020 Lessons Learned. What do you want in 2021?
If a psychic had told us in December 2019 where we would be in December 2020 people would have rolled their eyes and scrolled on to other distractions.
Yet here we are in a world utterly transformed, and it’s not over yet.
I’m not going to discuss the various theories and opinions that form a spectrum of belief ranging from believing everything the government and the BBC tell us at one end, and the scandemic/plandemic designed years ago to usher in the Great Reset and the 4th Industrial Revolution, at the other.
The truth, if we ever are to know it, is probably somewhere on that spectrum between the two extremes and there are likely to be elements that are true at both extremes and others which are outright lies.
What should be obvious to everyone is the importance of human contact, physical interaction, conversation, debate, stories, jokes, joy, and all the other healthy things that go on between people when they are physically close to one another.
More and more of our time is being spent online. I’m caught in the same trap. I make a living out of it and working from home, for me, isn’t unusual.
But as a network engineer I am intrigued by the growing amount of scientific evidence for what was once dismissed as the philosophical musings by fringe thinkers or the vague ramblings of spaced out gurus.
That is, the idea that we are all one.
What do you want in 2021? What lessons were learned in 2020?

How To Protect Yourself Against Cyber Attacks. 7 Cyber Security Tips.
In this video I describe some ways in which you can protect yourself and your assets against cyber attacks.
It’s not an exaggeration to state that we are in the midst of an epidemic of cyber crime.
Even if you take the reported cases at face value it’s bad enough but there are reasons to suspect that the actual situation is much worse because so much is not reported.
The police are under resourced, investigations are complex, and consequently the criminals feel empowered to continue and to step up their attacks.
So the onus is on us as individuals and business to strengthen our defences and to mitigate the risks by taking the essential precautions.
Some of these tips may seem obvious and yet it’s amazing how many people fail to act on this type of advice.
1: Use strong and unique passwords.
Yes, I know, logging in (and clicking away the cookie notice) is a pain but it can be semi automated with a good password manager.
I’ve used Roboform for years (see link below) and it includes a tool that will generate cryptic passwords containing a mix of numbers, symbols, and letters in upper and lower case.
These are stored in an encrypted file which is synchronised across all my devices; PC, laptops, mobile phones.
You should use long, unique, and cryptic passwords of 12 characters or more for everything that requires you to log in - not just your pension account or favourite shopping site, but also the broadband router on your home network - everything.
If the log-in process includes the option to send a passcode to your mobile phone then enable it and use it.
2: Be aware of data breaches and react to them.
Even with a strong password your details may be compromised if a company fails to protect their network and thieves hack in and steal data.
If you see any such reports in the press check to see if you have an account with the company and if you do, change your passwords immediately.
This won’t stop you details being sold on the Dark Web but it will prevent anyone from using your now compromised password.
Meanwhile, remain vigilant for any calls, mails, or other signs that your identity is being used by a criminal.

In this edition:
1. Two more British pilots arrested for people smuggling.
2. Is the US Army about to stop using all DJI drones?
3. Pilot Profile: Anny Divya, The World's Youngest Female Boeing 777 Captain
Chocks away then...
1. In July two British pilots were arrested at an airfield near Rotterdam for allegedly preparing to fly illegal immigrants into the UK. The pilots flew their leased Piper Chieftain to Holland from Lydd airport in Kent.
These arrests in Holland come after two other British pilots were convicted by French authorities for similar offences. They attempted to smuggle four Albanians into the UK from Marck, near Calais, in a Cessna 172.
They each received a two-and-a-half year sentence, a minimum of five years flying ban, and the aircraft was confiscated.
Earlier this year Lithuanian pilot Algirdas Barteska was convicted for the same offence.
UK Border Force officials believe this is just the tip of the iceberg. With seats selling at up to £900 each there are large profits tempting criminals and gangs.
If you see anything suspicious particularly at remote airfields in the south east of England you should call 101 and quote Project Pegasus or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Follow the @HantspolPlanes account on Twitter for more information and the latest updates.
2. Is the US Army about to stop using all DJI drones? The sUAS News website has published an article which includes what appears to be a US Army memo. The memo, dated 2nd August 2017, has the subject line "Discontinue Use of Dajiang Innovation (DJI) Corporation Unmanned Aircraft Systems".
It goes on to specify "DJI UAS Technology Threat and User Vulnerabilities". It then quotes a Navy memo dated 24 May 2017 entitled, "Operational Risks with Regards to DJI Family of Products."
The memo points out that DJI drones are the most widely used within the Army and that 300 separate Airworthiness Releases for DJI products have been issued by the Army Aviation Engineering Directorate.
The latest update from the US Army is confirmation that the guidance was issued but there is no further comment.
DJI on the other hand have said they are "surprised and disappointed" by the news and will be contacting the US Army to discuss it.
Head over to suasnews.com for updates on this story.
3. Anny Divya is the world's youngest female Boeing 777 Captain. Anny started flying aged 17 and obtained her pilot's licence within two years. She became a commercial pilot for Air India in 2006 and did some of her training and hour building in Spain.
Anny Divya comes from the south east of India and had to leave home in order to pursue

Knowlton Church and Ceremonial Earthworks Near Wimborne in Dorset
The ruins of Knowlton Church sit in the centre of the ceremonial henge that predates it by about 3,500 years. It is one of the most striking examples of how the new religion of Christianity adopted many existing sites of worship and ceremony, and in so doing persuaded the population to convert to the new religion.
However, this conversion was never fully completed and the old religion has endured to this day. If you click on the aerial photograph above and to the right then zoom in on the area just below the church ruins you will see a small black circular area of bare soil.
Knowlton Church, Knowlton RingsWhen I visited the site early one morning in October 2014 I found a used tea light in that space. It seems it had recently been used for a ceremony of some kind, perhaps a solitary follower of the path of Wicca.
It would seem that the Old Religion created the site, Christianity used for several hundred years, and now neo Pagans are using it once again.
Knowlton Church and Ceremonial Henge 1Knowlton Church
The Normans built the original church in the 12th Century and in was in continuous use until the 18th Century. The tower was added in the 15th Century. After the roof collapsed in the 18th Century it was abandoned in favour of another, more recently constructed church in Woodlands.
Knowlton Earthworks – A Ceremonial Henge
Knowlton Church and Ceremonial Henge 2The earthworks were built about 4,500 years ago in the Neolithic Age. It is clear from the size and dimensions that the earthworks were designed for ceremonial use and were not defensive structures. English Heritage suggest that there may have been wooden walls and a roof covering the whole area.
If you want more details and facts about the site's history then just google it and you'll find plenty, but I would suggest the best way to get to know the site is to visit it.
Ideally, go as I did in the early morning, preferably when it's sunny. To see the sun come up and cast the long shadows you can see in these aerial pictures is very atmospheric. It reminds you of the timelessness of the space.
Imagine all the history that has passed while the church has been there. That's less than a thousand years. Then continue your journey back in time to the point when the earthworks were constructed and you will be going back another three and half thousand years.

SEO Spyglass Review - Analyse Your Keyword Competitors' Sites
In this video I review SEO Spyglass.
SEO Spyglass is one of a suite of four tools in the product entitled SEO Powersuite.
The other three tools in the suite are Link Assistant, Rank Tracker, and Website Auditor.
If you can’t wait to check out any of these tools you’ll find links to free trials below this video.
In fact, you might want to pause this video and download SEO Spyglass first as what I’m about to describe will make more sense if you have it open on your desktop.
Pause this video, download and install SEO Spyglass, and then we’ll continue.
Search Engine Optimisation is both an art and a science (some would say a Dark Art) and it’s constantly evolving.
However, for the lay person who doesn’t want to learn all the deep technical intricacies some aspects remain constant.
One is that you can't be certain of how well you're doing until you measure your progress regularly.
But that can be difficult for anyone managing their own site but not to the level of a full-time webmaster who is familiar with SEO and keyword ranking.
To manage your own site's SEO efficiently you have to audit your site (Website Auditor), build or attract backlinks (Link Assistant), check your progress (Rank Tracker), and check what the competition is doing (SEO Spyglass).
And as a bonus, if you become adept at doing all this you can sell your skills and help others as an SEO Consultant.
I'll be reviewing each of the other tools in separate videos and in this one I'm going to concentrate on SEO Spyglass.
Before I begin, let's quickly remind ourselves about the importance of analysing not only your own site's progress but also that of your competition.
Unless you're very fortunate, your site will compete with others for the coveted position at the top of the search results for a specific keyword or phrase, entered by those searchers within your target market.
So if your site is not first in the results for that keyword you need to find out why your competitor has got the Number 1 slot, and what you can do to move your own site further up into the top three.
If you leave this process to chance you might still succeed but why take a risk with something so important?
The algorithms within search engines that decide which websites to show in the top ten positions on Page 1 of the search results will make their decisions based on a number of factors that include; backlinks, anchor text, and the domains that link to it.
Does the keyword or phrase appear in the anchor text? How many domains link to the site and what is their strength? Does the subject matter on the linking d

Airbus A3 Vahana eVTOL Aircraft and CityAirbus Air Taxi
In this video I introduce the Airbus A³ Vahana and the CityAirbus, two prototype aircraft for the Urban Air Mobility market.
A growing number of companies, from startups to global brands, are answering the call for safe, quiet, and efficient aircraft that will help to solve the problems of congestion and pollution in our ever expanding cities.
Various prototypes, from Personal Air Vehicles (PAV) to autonomous eVTOL aircraft, are opening up a whole new world of urban air mobility using all-electric engines, thus providing air taxi services and commuting that are both quieter and more sustainable.
You’ll find other videos about various prototypes in my YouTube channel, so when you've finished watching this video, hop over and take a look, as the playlist is growing.
Airbus, through its A³ company, has developed the Vahana (Sanskrit for ‘vehicle’) and in conjunction with Siemens, it’s working on the CityAirbus.
Let’s begin with the Airbus Vahana.
The Vahana is an all-electric demonstrator.
It’s designed to show the potential for unmanned autonomous flight using eVTOL aircraft.
To date, the Airbus A3 Vahana AlphaOne demonstrator has successfully completed 80 test flights during which navigation, flight controls, noise, failure detection and mitigation were tested.
This self-piloted aircraft has eight 45 kW electric motors and tilt wings, which allows it to take off and land vertically then by tilting the wings, convert the lift to forward flight.
The aircraft is fitted with avoid-and-detect systems that enable flight in urban environments, avoiding hazards both in the air and on the ground.
Each flight is pre-programmed before take-off and in the event of any emergency there are contingencies for a fast and safe landing or return to base.
And it is the urban air mobility market for which this aircraft is a prototype.
This is a rapidly growing market but there is a shortage of pilots.
Self-piloted aircraft provide a solution that is quieter, has lower operating costs, and a lower carbon footprint than helicopters.
With a cruise speed of 100 knots, eVTOL, and a small footprint of just 6 x 6 meters, this type of aircraft will enable fast, congestion free flight for inter and intra city travelers.
With a footprint that small it will be able to operate from existing heliports with lower costs and disruption when adding additional in
