Oct 11, 2021, 24 year old Jermaine Jones died after being tased by Richmond County deputy Richard Russell during a traffic stop.
The stop was initiated by Officer Christopher Brown, Brown was in an unmarked patrol car.
According to the Richmond County Coroner's Office, Jones was pronounced dead at Augusta University Medical Center on Monday after experiencing a medical emergency while being transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation looked into the incident. Jones had been a passenger in a black SUV that was pulled over by deputies at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Clifton Street on Monday evening. During the traffic stop, Jones stood up and was immediately tased by Richard Russell, cowboy stye.

“The District Attorney’s Office is in possession of the initial investigative report into the death of Jermaine Jones, Jr., which was conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The investigative file contains extensive documentation, evidence, and reports to be reviewed before any determinations can be made. This process takes time, as investigative reviews often require consultation with medical experts, in-depth review of the applicable law, and necessary additional investigation. The District Attorney’s Office cannot disclose fact-specific information to the public at this time, but will continue to be transparent with the community on this process and objective in its review of this tragic incident.”

A man got a flat tire and called for help, the mans father and uncle came to help him. They passed by an apartment complex in a busy area to get to the broken down car. Richard Russell, Christopher Brown and Jerry Martinez were conducting a narcotics investigation at the exact time the men cam to get their car. Chris brown mistook the men for drug Valera's because they left the area abruptly. Chris brown pulled the men over, eventually extracting them from the vehicle and for whatever reason the young adult in the car, Jermaine Jones had a knew jerk reaction jumped up and ran. He was tased and beat for hours until he died after falling into a coma. The GBI crime lab listed the death as a homicide and the officers involved have all been cleared. It took me a year to get the body cam and case files as the Richmond County Sheriffs Office is still to this day not releasing the records. The records are no longer part of any criminal litigation. These records I obtain eventually came from the GBI.

Alicia Parkes, a former sheriff's deputy in Georgia, was sentenced to 12 months of probation after pleading guilty to eavesdropping on a conversation between two other deputies. Parkes was accused of installing a listening device in the office of then-Sheriff Kem Kimbrough in order to record a conversation between Kimbrough and another deputy, LaDonna Williams. Williams had filed a sexual harassment complaint against Kimbrough, and Parkes was allegedly trying to gather evidence to support Kimbrough's denial of the allegations.
Parkes was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and complete 40 hours of community service. She was originally charged with felony eavesdropping, but the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor as part of a plea deal.
The case drew attention to the issue of sexual harassment in law enforcement. Williams' allegations against Kimbrough were ultimately dismissed, but the case highlighted the need for better training and procedures to prevent and respond to sexual harassment in the workplace.

61-year-old Freddie Walker, who suffered from schizophrenia, died in late July after being tased multiple times by Burke County deputies during a schizophrenic episode.
His funeral was on Wednesday morning, and his family wants justice.
They’ve hired a lawyer, and tell us they are working on filing a lawsuit against the Burke County Sheriff’s Office for how deputies handled the incident.
Officer was asked to stay back until Walker was stabilized. Paramedics wanted to try to calm him down before law enforcement gets involved.
Officers became aggressive and tased Waker 4 times.
“There was different avenues they could have taken to handle that situation, like I said before with MACE, and there was enough people around where they could’ve restrained Freddie,” said Arthur Palmer, Walker’s nephew.
In a video statement released after the incident, Sheriff Alfonzo Williams said he believes the deputies didn’t violate any laws.
“We do realize that people across the country have died after being tased, and usually there is some underlying medical condition,” Sheriff Williams said. “Mr. Walker’s body will go to the crime lab for an autopsy and we’ll await those results.”
The Sheriff’s Office sent us the following statement on Wednesday:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Freddie Walker. It was an unfortunate incident and we understand the frustration and hurt Walker’s family is experiencing. Our deputies undergo Taser Certification Training as well as the yearly recertification which is required by the manufacturer and by the department. As most know, sometimes there are not enough resources available in certain areas for people who might experience a mental crisis. We remain hopeful that the state of Georgia will take a more active role in regulating systems to protect mental health patients and provide the necessary funding to support mental health efforts. Again, our agency along with Sheriff Alfonzo Williams sends our deepest sympathy to all involved. We will have no further comment due to the fact this is a legal matter. ”
