Today I am here at the Isafjordur cemetery. For those of you just joining us, I was invited to take part in the ArtsIceland Residency here in Iceland to compose a 7-movement Requiem Mass for a chamber choir. You might be wondering why am I sitting here at the cemetery? Well, I found out the other day that there will be a funeral service here next week and they want me to perform my piece after the funeral service. I would only by 3 or 4 movements of the requiem as it is still a work-in-progress. Right now we are trying to find singers for this performance and will hopefully have 6 or more singers so all the main parts are covered. But I am grateful for universe conspiring to bring me this opportunity to have my piece performed here to acknowledge and honor those who have passed and help the souls transition in peace. If you are in Isafjordur next week, you are invited to come hear the rough-draft version of 3-4 of the movements of the requiem. The good news is that my GoFundMe goal has been crushed!! At this point, everything ABOVE this goal will go towards the performance of the Requiem Mass, which means hiring extra singers, having rehearsals, the printing of music, having a conductor, having possible instrumentalists, documentation of the piece, and more.
