Mista Stunt - "Broke" Slam Identity Records

Artist city, country: Los Angeles, California, U.S.A.

Artist Biography: What does Los Angeles-based actor/film producer Rick Irvin and Mista Stunt, who is one half of the progressive Hip Hop group Gabfest, have in common? Actually, everything since they are the same person. To make the combination of these two personalities even more uncanny, Rick's IMDB bio boasts the fact that he is the No. 2 black guy to die in all horror films and recurring roles on two daytime soaps separate him even further from your average emcee. Stunt has a purposeful vision with his debut full-length solo album "Invasion of the Chain Snatcher" where he borrows the concept from the cult classic science fiction/alien/horror film "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" originally released in 1956. Sporting a distinct style that does not always fit neatly into today's molds reserved for most rappers, Stunt vies for the listener's attention by metaphorically "snatching chains," pendants and charms included, from the current ultra-materialistic style of Hip Hop that dominates today's music landscape.
Rather than appealing to flashy trends and extravagant displays of wealth through flashing money, jewelry, houses, cars, women, and any other exhibition of what some artists might not possess in real life, Stunt chooses to entertain through an inventive story that the average person is more likely to relate to. Furthermore, the intention on "Chain Snatcher" is to take one on a journey where songs represent different scenes that are seamlessly woven together with skits to form one cohesive story line that builds anticipation throughout and climaxes at the end. The album is a clear departure from the vastly wide subject matter of "The Refinement," "Be Refined" and "Giant Mummies" mix tapes, and "Dirty Circuitry" 12-inch vinyl single, yet still fits into gabfest's ever-evolving style.
Even though some of the songs on "Chain Snatcher" stand in stark contrast to what most Hip Hop fans might currently be listening to, they have been crafted to fit effortlessly into just about any current playlist on one's iPod. The album is produced by studio impresario Proph, the other member of gabfest who serves as Stunt's visionary partner. The resulting collaboration is a soulful album with a live production style laced with funk
