The "Indie Girl Voice" (or alternatively "Indie Pop Voice") is a singing technique or style that became popular in the 2010s among female pop singers. While the style probably exists in every country heavily influenced by American/British pop, it takes up a rather different form in the Philippine music scene. In this video, I talk about this style but in the context of OPM and I share my personal opinions. Note re: Head voice 4:46 . I tried to decipher if the "indie girl voice" is in a falsetto or head voice. A falsetto produces an airy and lighter sound. However, I also know that one only uses the falsetto when a singer has to sing notes beyond his/her normal range which produces the airy and lighter sound. So I doubt that the "indie girl singer" is singing in falsetto solely based on how they use it. Which then makes me think that the airiness and lightness they use is purely for aesthetic purposes and not necessity.
