Episode 22 features Peter E. Murphy and a pair of his recent chapbooks: I Thought It Was Gong to Be Okay and Mean Time. We also talk about More Challenges for the Delusional, an anthology of writing prompts and the poems by others they inspired, the writing process, and more.
Peter E. Murphy was born in Wales and grew up in New York City where he operated heavy equipment, managed a nightclub and drove a taxi. He is the author of eleven books and chapbooks including most recently, Mean Time and The Man Who Never Was. His poems, essays and photographs have been published in hundreds of journals including The Amsterdam Quarterly, The Beloit Poetry Journal, The Cortland Review, Diode, Guernica, Hippocampus, Hayden’s Ferry Review, The New York Times, The New Welsh Review, Rattle, The Shakespeare Quarterly and elsewhere. Looking for Thelma, an excerpt from his memoir-in-progress, won the 2018 Wilt Nonfiction Chapbook Prize sponsored by St. Leo University. He has received awards and fellowships for teaching and for writing from numerous organizations including The Folger Shakespeare Library, The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, The National Endowment for the Humanities, The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars and Yaddo. The founder of Murphy Writing of Stockton University, Peter has led hundreds of workshops for writers and teachers.

A weekly livestreaming open mic for all of your news poems. Every week, Rattle receives hundreds of submissions for our Poets Respond series, but we're only able to publish one or two of them. This is an opportunity to share more as we gather around and explore current events through poetry.

Charles Harper Webb has published twelve books of poetry, including Brain Camp. Webb’s awards in poetry include the Morse Prize, the Kate Tufts Discovery Award, the Felix Pollock Prize, and the Benjamin Saltman Prize. Webb is Professor of English at California State University, Long Beach, where he teaches in the MFA Creative Writing Program.

Episode #41 welcomes Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer and her most recent book, Naked for Tea. Rosemerry has been a regular contributor to Poets Respond and the Ekphrastic Challenge for years.
Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer lives in southwest Colorado and is the author of eleven collections of poetry. Her poems have appeared in O Magazine, Rattle.com, TEDx, in back alleys, on A Prairie Home Companion, and on river rocks she leaves around town. She’s taught poetry for Think 360, Craig Hospital, Ah Haa School for the Arts, Weehawken Creative Arts, Camp Coca-Cola, meditation retreats, addiction recovery programs, hospice, and many other organizations. She’s won the Fischer Prize, Rattle’s Ekphrastic Challenge, the Dwell Press Solstice Prize, the Writer’s Studio Literary Contest, and was a finalist for the Colorado Book Award. As Colorado’s Western Slope Poet Laureate (2015–2017), she created and curates Heard of Poets, an interactive poetry map. She earned her MA in English Language & Linguistics at UW-Madison. Since 2006, she’s written a poem a day. One-word mantra: Adjust. Naked for Tea was a finalist for the 2017 Able Muse Book Award.

Rattlecast #63 features Jessica Goodfellow and her book, Whiteout. Jessica has appeared in three issue of Rattle, including our most recent.
Jessica Goodfellow grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but has spent the last twenty years in California, Florida, and Japan. She received an MS degree from the California Institute of Technology and an MA in linguistics from the University of New England. Her first book of poetry, The Insomniac's Weather Report (three candles press), won the Three Candles Press First Book Prize, and was reissued by Isobar Press in 2014. Her second book Mendeleev's Mandala is available from Mayapple Press (2015). Her new book Whiteout is out from the University of Alaska Press (July 2017), and was completed while she was a writer-in-residence at Denali National Park and Preserve. She is also the author of a poetry chapbook, A Pilgrim's Guide to Chaos in the Heartland (Concerete Wolf, 2006), winner of the Concrete Wolf Chapbook Competition. Her work has appeared in Best American Poetry 2018, Best New Poets 2006, and has been featured by Garrison Keillor on NPR's "The Writer's Almanac." Jessica currently lives in Japan with her husband and sons.
