There are two major problems with this that kind of get under my skin. Not that I'd normally choose to play this anyway. First, there's pretty much nothing to do. You're just working numbers while climbing ropes. No enemies, no pressure, just...yeah. I think I was mentally glazed looking at this because the visual math prompt just didn't stick at first, but then it was just...vapid.
Second, it's that the movement really sucks. You have to repeatedly click a direction. You can't just hold a direction. It really works against what you expect to happen. You'll see me just kind of freeze because, like I said, I'm just staring into space not realizing I'm not going anywhere.
I don't even think a child would get much out of this. There's supposed to be a game here first and foremost. There just isn't one. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ck3moDoEJYw
For an old janky WWF game this isn't actually bad. No finishers, but the wrestlers are at least clearly defined and unique. Easy mode is...well, easy, and it's nothing more than a button masher. I'm not quite sure how to do any running or top rope attacks, but it ended up not mattering much. Music is OK....I can't hate on it. Can't love it, but I can't hate. Although it was a 1993 game and while no wrestling games were special at the time, this really could have been better.

Some really...interesting choices with the menu system. So clear, I ended up with a CPU vs CPU game and didn't even know it was about to happen.
It's not a very compelling game and there are more decisions here I just don't understand. I get that the SMS was not an audio powerhouse, but the crowd effects seem to only be "on" or "off" randomly with no extra intensity for action on the field. Not even for a goal. If it varied, the static sound would be fine enough, but when it draws so much attention to itself, it's just noise. The whole game feels like it's near Sensible Soccer without actually being Sensible Soccer, and that game offers more. I'm simply not sure why this game exists other than US Gold not really ever understanding how games work.

Cute game that takes a bit to get used to. It's a stiffer, more deliberate "one hit kills" game that seems clunky and jank at first, but it's not. Some earlier games, especially Japanese adventure games, had a certain charm to them and this is one of them. I like the spin on Tom Sawyer with him having crazy dreams to justify the character and bigger odds. Not a long play for me, but it's nice enough.

Does it look nice? Sure. Sounds good, too. I just have an issue with the controls. I'm not an avid F1 player, as you've seen before, but turning feels off here. There just doesn't seem to be a good way to approach them.

One licensed, one unlicensed, same game. This butcher of a port is where most of my Indy arcade game memories actually come from, which is a shame because, playing them back to back, you can see that this is NOT representative of its source. It took the worst elements of the arcade and made them worse, more confusing, and added in one of the worst jumping mechanics in an NES title.

Thankfully, it's a remake so it's a bit more visually appealing, but it doesn't change really anything as far as the gameplay. I suppose you can now equip things, but it all works the same. Still not my game, although let me clarify from my arcade perspective...I get the influence of this game. It doesn't mean I have to like it, nor did I grow up with it.

You'd think that this would be the idea handheld for this game, but it really isn't. It doesn't play well at all, isn't responsive, and someone really should have told the designers to make their colors a little more contrasting because the ghosting makes this game atrocious on the eyes. Everything looks so samey. It also sounds terrible. This should have been a full-length tech demo showing off every strength the Game Gear had, but it failed.

I don't remember the movie being all out action, but here we are. The game is so loose and fast, which isn't a great thing because most of the time it's a one hit/one kill game. It's chaotic and slippery, not really becoming fun in any of the modes. It's playable and I'm sure that given more time to master things it would be better, but I can't see this ever being good.
What I DO like is the concept and what it could have meant for a nice gaming series. Had they put a little more time into this, they could have made an anthology series with an interesting antagonist to follow. If the game modes were more enjoyable, balanced, and polished a bit, then it could have been a neat way to showcase visual ideas or hardware pushing gameplay.

Not gonna lie, this makes me want to check out the arcade version. Not because I'm loving it, but I want to see what people thought this concept would be like with some actual power attached to it. As with a lot of Atari games, this is a template game to some imaginary competition between friends and not a full experience.
