What Is An SVRS Pool Pump?
http://www.SwimmingPoolSteve.com - SVRS stands for Safety Vacuum Release System and this refers to pool pumps that have an added security feature to prevent from someone becoming trapped and drowning due to an entrapment hazard. If a pool pump were plumbed in such a way that the main drain of the pool was an isolated suction line direct to the pool pump then this would be an entrapment hazard. This is also true for hot tubs. In 2002 Virginia Graeme Baker died as a result of an entrapment hazard caused by a faulty main drain lid in a hot tub which lead to the VGBA - The Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act. Many residential pools in North America are still not compliant with the safety standard established with this law. SVRS pumps are not required, but are a supplemental form of protection against accidents due to entrapment hazards in pools and spas.
