Tachikoma gets its first handwashing, using the two-bucket method, a satisfying foam cannon and pressure washer, and a leaf blower. It was an unseasonably warm day this winter, so My wife and I took the opportunity to wash our Model X P100D with Ludicrous Mode. This is important because Tesla says not to use a non-touchless car wash on your car, the brushes, fingers, and scrubbers will damage your paint over time. On previous cars they made nasty swirls in my paint when viewed in bright sunlight when the car dried, I won't be going back to a non-touchless carwash again. If you have your car wrapped or have paint protection film like I do the brushes may damage your PPF or wrap. Things didn't start out well, all the car washing gear was put someplace else until spring, and the new pressure washer wasn't even out of the shipping box yet. When starting my pre-wash rinse the soap lever was open and the car got soaped instead of rinsed. From here things went better, except for the rapidly setting sun. We managed to finish at sunset! Unfortunately, the next morning saw a stone-chip or door-ding of substantial size on the passenger side door. My wife was fuming for days afterword, and whenever she notices the spot today. As I typed this I went back to look at the source footage and I can see the spot in the nice soapy door, so the good thing is my neighbor’s lawn company didn’t do it. The bad thing is that explains the large rock hit I heard but saw no evidence of on the front of the car, all the way to the very top of the big-sky windshield, it was right there on the door! This is why insurance in South Carolina comes with free windshields, our roads are top quality ?. The car turned out great given how little time was put into making it shine!
