cryptomaniaks An often overlooked reason why Bitcoin has value is that no one knows who Satoshi Nakamoto is. And it is unlikely that anybody ever will. Think about it: Ethereum was created by Vitalik Buterin. He is widely regarded as a genius. Currently, he leads the development and the whole Ethereum team. But what if something was to happen to him? What if he disappeared, or was arrested, or even assassinated? The price would surely drop, since many people would question what would happen to Ethereum after having lost such a visionary leader. After all, Apple’s stock dipped when the great Steve Jobs passed away. In a way, the momentum and value of Ethereum are a little bit centralized within Vitalik Buterin. But since Satoshi Nakamoto is anonymous (and staying that way), then Bitcoin is even more decentralized. Any questions? thecryptograph It turns out that Africa is a perfect proving ground for Bitcoin, according to a documentary and companion report.
Bitcoin came too late for Alakanani Itireleng’s little boy. He died before she could raise the money to pay for his surgery in South Africa.
But it was through trying to save Paco that Alakanani was first introduced to Bitcoin. What she learned amazed her—and like many other people around the globe, she became an evangelist for the digital currency.
Now known as Botswana’s Bitcoin Lady, Itireleng went on to found the educational non-profit Satoshi Centre, where she teaches others about how to use and profit from it, and transform their lives. She’s one of the many inspiring Africans featured in “Banking on Africa: The Bitcoin Revolution.” The documentary, shot by Tamarin Gerriety, for award winning South African production house Documinute, launches on Amazon Prime on Friday. It explores how Bitcoin pioneers in Southern Africa are surmounting the widespread challenges on the continent—poor infrastructure, mismanaged economies, high remittance fees, and widespread poverty—with crypto.
A comprehensive report on the African Bitcoin ecosystem, conducted by research agency, Arcane Research, is set to be released alongside the documentary. “Africa is one of, if not the most promising regions for the adoption of cryptocurrencies,” the report claims. Most of the continent is underserved by traditional financial services, with 66% having no access to a traditional bank account. But much of Africa still requires significant investment in crypto-specific infrastructure (such as exchanges) as well as its Internet and electricity networks, per the report.
Focus is often placed on investment, speculation, and trading, but Africa, more than any other continent, has a need for the utility of cryptocurrencies, according to the report.

An initiative has attracted more than 1,700 volunteers who say they would be willing to intentionally be infected with the coronavirus as part of a controversial testing method that advocates say could speed the development of a vaccine.
The group, 1Day Sooner, says 1,754 people have signed up as volunteers for a so-called human challenge trials as of Thursday, according to its website
BEIJING: A researcher in a lab coat in Beijing holds up the hopes of humanity in his fingers: "Coronavac", an experimental vaccine against the coronavirus that has upended the world.
Sinovac Biotech, which is conducting one of the four clinical trials that have been authorised in China, has claimed great progress in its research and promising results among monkeys.
While human trials have just started, the company says it is ready to make 100 million doses per year to combat the virus, which surfaced in central China late last year before spreading across the globe and killing more than 220,000 people.
Thousands of shots of the vaccine, which is based on an inactivated pathogen, have already been produced and packaged in a white and orange case emblazoned with the name "Coronavac".
While the drug has a long way to go before it is approved, the company must show that it can produce it on a large scale and submit batches to be controlled by the authorities.
The World Health Organization has warned that developing a vaccine could take 12 to 18 months, and Sinovac does not know when its half-millilitre injection will be ready for the market.
"It's the question everyone is asking themselves," Sinovac director of brand management Liu Peicheng told AFP.
Nasdaq-listed Sinovac has experience in mass-producing a drug against a global virus: it was the first pharmaceutical company to market a vaccine against H1N1, or swine flu, in 2009.
More than 100 labs around the world are scrambling to come up with a vaccine, but only seven -- including Sinovac -- are currently in clinical trials, according to the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Sinovac has published results showing that its vaccine has "largely protected" macaques from infection in an animal trial.
It's findings have yet to be peer reviewed by the global scientific community.
The company has since conducted human trials, administering the serum on 144 volunteers in April in eastern Jiangsu province.

Traditionally, immunisation has been achieved using live, weakened forms of the virus, or part or whole of the virus once it has been inactivated by heat or chemicals. These methods have drawbacks. The live form can continue to evolve in the host, for example, potentially recapturing some of its virulence and making the recipient sick, while higher or repeat doses of the inactivated virus are required to achieve the necessary degree of protection. Some of the Covid-19 vaccine projects are using these tried-and-tested approaches, but others are using newer technology. One more recent strategy – the one that Novavax is taking, for example – constructs a “recombinant” vaccine. This involves extracting the genetic code for the protein spike on the surface of SARS-CoV-2, which is the part of the virus most likely to provoke an immune reaction in humans, and pasting it into the genome of a bacterium or yeast – forcing these micro-organisms to churn out large quantities of the protein. Other approaches, that are even newer, bypass the protein and build vaccines from the genetic instruction itself. This is the case for Moderna and a German company, CureVac, both of which are building Covid-19 vaccines out of messenger
Covid-19 vaccine latest updates: From Oxford's coronavirus vaccine trial on rhesus macaque monkeys showing promise to a vaccine made with proteins from tobacco leaves ready for human tests, the challenge to develop an injection has only intensified.
While last week we reported that US firms Moderna and Novavax have moved on to the second phase of human trials in the quest for a vaccine against Covid-19, more companies have made discernible progress in the past few days. From Oxford’s coronavirus vaccine trial on rhesus macaques showing promise to a vaccine made with proteins from tobacco leaves ready for human tests, the challenge to develop an injection has only intensified even as the number of worldwide cases cross 46 lakh, including more than 3 lakh deaths.
For Covid-19, a vaccine is of paramount importance at this stage and there are some 100 research groups across the world racing to develop one. The World Health Organisation has also identified top 7-8 candidates for Covid-19 vaccines.
Recently, President Donald Trump said the US was working with India on developing a vaccine for Covid-19 and recognised Indian-Americans as “great” scientists and researchers, who are contributing in the development of coronavirus vaccine. “We’re also cooperating on vaccine development. Together we will beat the invisible enemy!” Trump said.
Covid-19 vaccine latest updates:
? A vaccine, being jointly developed by the University of Oxford and researchers from the US government’s National Institutes of Health (NIH), has provided protection against the novel coronavirus in six rhesus macaques, paving the way for human trials, BBC reported. The vaccine helped in producing antibodies capable of fighting the virus.

cryptocrunchapp @CryptoCrunchApp - Tuur Demeester: Bitcoin Accumulation By Institutions Will Push Price Above $50K.????
.
.
Bitcoin investor and research analyst Tuur Demeester doesn’t see the coin going below $6,000 after the rewards halving. He assured that the Bitcoin (BTC) was “back in a bull market” following the halving. Demeester told, institutions are already interested in Bitcoin and believes that if these institutions and whales are able to accumulate enough, it will “likely ignite another parabolic rally” in the price of BTC. He told, the cryptocurrency rallying to $50,000-$100,000 is certainly possible in the future.?????
