I filmed the 4runner going up this hill from the bottom. This is a shot from the top of the hill with the Renegade coming up. My brother started coming up before I started filming, so I told him to go back down and start again. The car didn't have any issues up this hill in rock mode and 4wd lock on.
Hill rating 6.5/10.

June 4, 2021. This was our time on the trail. Cell/GPS is weak on the trail. Anything off the main gravel road was not marked on Google Maps. All branching trails are dead ends, so backtracking out is the option. We did the trail in 2wd in dry conditions. We had no clearance issues in our trucks, but any smaller vehicle might have trouble with the potholes and ruts. Slowing down and driving around them will still get your through though. The main gravel road can be done in a Corolla. It's wide, graveled, and flat. On the side dirt trails, the road gets narrow. Since all the trails are in and out, you have to keep in mind of any turn outs. As you might need to back up to a wider section to allow oncoming vehicles pass.
Cameras: DJI Osmo Action. Mounted on the inside of the windshield. Settings: 4k 60fps, Rocksteady On, Temperature Threshold High, Color Normal , Dewarp Off. Battery was installed in the cameras, but we also have them plugged up to 12v power the entire time. Charging and recorder does heat up the cameras to the point of shut off. We ran our A/C on defrost to get air to flow to the camera.
Fishing for Yellow Perch on Lake Desire, Washington. We also targeted bass on hard lures and senko worms. Trout was also on list, but we didn't expect much during this time of the year. Once we got to the lake and felt the water temp. We knew trout was off the menu. We had 4 guys on two 12 ft aluminum boats with Minn Kota trolling motors. We trolled the entire lake and determined the south end had the most bite and stay there most of the time. From least effective to most: Crank baits, fake maggots, and fake worms. 1 inch section of real worm and trout magnets was arguably tied. Setup: We were all on light to ultraligth setups. 4-6 lbs line. Position the float about 2-4 ft from the swivel. Place a split shot lead weight above the swivel on the main line. The swivel will stop the split shot weight from sliding down to the hook during the cast. From the swivel we used 1 ft of 4 lbs line. Use a small hook or a trout magnet hook with your choice of bait. We kept the split shot weight close to the hook to sink the hook down. We found that with the weights up higher, we weren't getting as much bites. A trout magnet jig hooks is also weighted and can help with sinking the bait. In deeper water, we determined that we couldv'e used a bobber stopper on the main line with a sliding bobber. That way we could have sinked the bait down deeper. Weirdly, we were still getting bites when we were trolling with the float setup.

First snow of the season for us and the Renegade. It's been snowing on and off in the mountains in the last month, but melting within the next few days. This is the first snow that lasted more that a day and continued to snow throughout the next 2 weeks.
The Renegade came out in the Spring of 2015 and we purchased ours at the end of April. So we've been waiting for winter to find some mud and snow we can drive it through.
The first bit of the video was on stock tires with my sisters and niece. The plan was just to get out and play in the snow. So I didn't do much driving or recording with the stock tires. I was with the wrong people to risk getting stuck in the snow.
The hood view is bad. I didn't tighten the camera mount so it's shaky and makes a lot of noise banging around. So I didn't use much of those videos.
3 Days later I went back up with the mud tires and my cousin brought along his 2011 Thundra. Now I could get into trouble and have a capable truck to pull me out if needed.
The stock tires did fine on the main trail, but not so on untouched snow. Turning in deep snow just slows you down to a halt. Even if I back up and tried to slowly clear a path forward, the stock tires would stop and spin on the deeper snow. With the mud tire's large lugs, it would dig and claw forward a bit more each time I gave a run at it.
I don't know what temp is required, but at 40 degrees F the Renegade displays a icy road warning light. It's optional for the driver to access the weather and turn on any assist if necessary. It hasn't gotten cold enough lately for that light to come on. So it was a surprise to me when I first saw it. When the Renegade sensed the tires slipping in the snow/ice it also gave a warning or traction lost and suggest changing the drive mode to snow.
The whole traction/4x4 system worked very well for me in upwards to 5 inches of snow. A sedan and 4Runner parked at the entrance of Black Mountain trail because they couldn't get past the first few patches of melting snow. These patches of snow/ice are hundreds of yards apart and the heavier snow doesn't show until 40 mins into the trail.

Old Control Road off the Highway 74 in San Jacinto, CA. This trail is just a bit further down then Bee's Canyon in my other videos.
The first 4 mins were from a couple of week ago with the stock setup. The rest of the video is with the AEM intake, roof rack, and mud tires as my current setup.
I had issues with 235/R15 Kendas in the front on the stock suspension. So until I get a lift kit I'm using 215/R15 BFGs in the front and 235/R15 Kendas in the rear. The front rub at full wheel lock. The rear rubs at full compression.
3 Different drivers through the video so the driving styles and aggressiveness is different.
Most of the clips we had the Renegade in Auto Drive Mode, 4 Low, and AWD Lock on. Anything without these options on wasn't worth filming and most of the trail was driven in Auto Drive Mode with AWD Lock off.

Entrance shot of the Jeep Trail in Bee Canyon. Just some sign information for anyone interested in the trails we frequent. There is a few videos of us going through the first 1/4 mile of the trail before the very difficult section of the trail. Not until we get better tires and maybe a bit of lift.

If you watched the hill climb... This is me coming back down to pick up my brother and continue the drive. I dropped the tires into the grooves to test the clearance.
We are still learning the vehicle and building confidence with the Renegade.

Random videos we decided to shoot while we were out on Thomas Trail in the San Jacinto mountains. These are raw unedited and unplanned videos so the camera handling aren't the best. Testing the capabilities of the Renegade first hand and playing/learning the different modes. We didn't have issues with clearance as long as we picked the right lines, but even dropping the tires into some holes the height cleared fine. The only limitation we found was the tire traction, but the 4wd system accommodated perfectly.
This is us in the 4runner waiting on the Renegade to catch up. I decided to film this bit because I could see most of the trail leading up to us. The Renegade was behind because of the recent rain had cut up the road in this bit of the trail and my brother wasn't as confident his first time out with the Renegade.

This is my 1st brother's first attempt ever on this hill challenge. After I showed my 2 brother how to get up over this climb on the easy side. We had my 1st brother try the hard side to test the Jeep. Again, he continues to learn how to drive the trails.
This isn't a fail for him or us. It's a good learning experiences and teaching opportunity to build our confidence on the trails with the Jeep.
