Here's an original song from my forthcoming album later this year.
While listening to and watching the video, one might assume I wrote this song in response to the disaster of 2020 and America's reaction to Covid. HOWEVER, I actually wrote it (in its entirety) loooooong before March 2020. (Circa 2018, maybe?)
That being said, the fact that I wrote this BEFORE everything happened is somewhat scary because it shows how we've been on a certain path for quite some time.
I've never been a political person. I don't claim a party or president. But I have been accused of choosing sides and I guess I can understand why: It's because I want to be left alone. I don't need to be told what to do or how to live my life. Or how to spend my money or how to raise my kid. Or what kind of medical care I need or the quality of oxygen I get to breathe. That's not me being political. It's called being an individual.
I could go on for days. I will shut up now. Feel free to comment below. I'd love to hear from you about anything and everything.
Also, for you true rock and roll trivia nerds.......can you catch my "tip of the cap" to Lou Reed in the lyrics of this song? 4 million bonus points for you if you correctly identify the lyric.

So, this is a song that I wrote on a whim a couple of weeks ago. I decided to go ahead and post it on YouTube because - well, it's just not that serious. I hope no one takes offense to it. But for the record, the song is based on a true story.
One of the many things that makes me feel uncomfortable about posting an original song like this is that it's just not ready yet - from my perspective. For one thing, I need to change the key. And because the song is so "new" to me, I sang the melody very robotically. This helps me get in a rhythm of what I'm doing while playing and singing something that's not stuck in my head yet, like my other songs.
And man, I gotta do something about the lighting in my videos. I think it's because I'm always trying to shoot in a different spot than previous. Because of this, there's no consistency in the light setup.

One day, shortly before leaving for an engagement, I got a bug up my butt (and this song in my head) and decided to sit down and record it - in one take.
So...here's a little love ditty for you. An Elvis tune that only Elvis fans know. "In My Way" is from the 1961 Elvis movie "Wild In The Country." I actually first heard it on the 1973 Elvis compilation album "Separate Ways."
The tune always grabbed my attention as a kid because it seemed so intimate - short and sweet. Just his voice and an acoustic guitar.
It was written by Ben Weisman and Fred Wise.

This music video goes waaaaaaaay back. March of 1996 was when it was shot, to be exact. It was a lot of fun. Can you tell?
"New York Groove" was made famous by Ace Frehley when he recorded it for his 1978 solo album as a member of KISS. The song was written by Russ Ballard and original recorded and released by the band Hello in 1975.
And you guessed it - that's me (w/hair) and Jay on the guitar. Jay was 23 and I was 24.

Well, guess who's blocked in Denmark again? Apparently this is gonna be a regular thing. If you're seeing this....you are not dead.
Against Me! were introduced to me back when the lead singer was a dude. Now he's a she.
I saw the band open up for the Dropkick Murphys in Westport around 2011.
"I Was A Teenage Anarchist" has stuck with me, as have a couple of other songs. The original version has fun, simple guitar work and the chorus is extremely powerful, especially when the lead guitarist actually hits the high harmony notes. If you search live performances of it by the band you will witness what I am referring to - a plethora of different versions and accuracy. But hey, that's "punk rock," right?
I could've used a 2nd guitarist and singer on this. I thought about doing a studio version but decided against it due to time. I hope you like it, regardless.

We knew it was coming - school is officially OUT for summer on April 9. I mean, they're still doing home-schooling around here, but....wow. Just wow. Most of us feel like we're living in a dream world these days, right? So I figured this was an appropriate song. As usual, this is my first take....which....for me....isn't too bad.
