High level gameplay videos. Occasional commentary. No nonsense, no wannabe disc jockey antics, no filler. The game is everything.

Some goons to slaughter, followed by our first encounter with Taruga. He can be rather annoying, and you never want to be too far away from him due to his gunplay.

The greatest moment in the history of our sport! If I'm understanding the rules correctly, this puts this run at #4 on the speedrun.com leaderboards. I know I can do better than this, so we'll see about top 3 soon enough!
Played on PS4's Arcade Archives version and recorded via the Share feature. No cheat codes, turbos, pausing, save states or any other cheats were used.

For some reason, this is one of the hardest stages to land the S-Rank consistently. One section in particular features some evasive enemies that you'll want to take out quickly with Frag and melee attacks when you can, then finish off with the Xaar laser if you can keep it (hence using the other two as much as possible). The Hongshi fight is almost exactly like the Nerve fight, but the Shadow fight can be a challenge. You suddenly want to get the hell out and fight from range after doing some Frag damage this time. Always stick and move. Dash with intent!

The difficulty ramps up a little bit and teases you with a few trap rooms, turrets, beams and floating mines. The ol' Dash 'n Frag deals with each, and you can dash through the electric beams, as well. Later on comes another encounter with Mother - just do exactly the same as the first encounter, and either shield or dash and fire. This time, you'll be better equipped, too. Immediately following that is another boss fight with a Heavy Cyborg! You can do a lot of damage with close range Frags and circling him tightly, but you'll take some damage doing this. You can more safely keep at a distance, pick up powerful weaponry if it's there, and put skill points into the Dash to stay moving.

A detailed commentary series for Contra III on Hard Mode, where I discuss the mechanics, weapon choice, tricks, enemy placement and boss strategy, stage by stage, in order to take this game on without a single death. On Hard, even the first stage can be a doozy, but with practice and knowledge of what to look for, you CAN do it! I hope this helps anybody making the attempt.

Not as easy as it looks. You want to immediately start moving to the right, and jump right at the edge and just shave him for the first shot. You then have to either time the second shot just right so as to break his scythe and then follow up with another hit, or get that second hit in before it even comes out. Once achieved, head back to the left and break his giant skull attack with another shot. Then on to the real game...

Another method in avoiding attacks from the final boss involves noticing Alfred's movements and sliding TOWARDS the boss hanging on the wall as the flames start to come out, then backing off and heading towards Alfred and sliding through and behind him. It's a minor adjustment, but it allows you to stay relatively close to the boss the whole time without having to play any middle ground game.

May to the June baby! This run gave me more trouble than I thought it would! I had to go back to the drawing board a few times after figuring out how much easier the final section can be without any speed upgrades at all, meaning having to adjust my gameplay of the entire rest of the game for that and working backwards. There were times I thought I had this game all figured out, but the difference between a mere 1CC and a fully deathless run is... well, 46 attempts. The Stage 4 boss seems to be a bit luck based, depending on what it decides to fire at you. If it fires any orbs from the middle, you're essentially screwed. Otherwise, there's a safe spot you can exploit if the extreme left and right chambers fire at you. I will do a commentary track for this game and probably even isolate the stages and break down that tricky final escape section, and show and tell you how to make it far less tricky.
Played via Konami's Arcade Classics Collection on PS4. No save states, pausing, turbos, tool assists or any other cheats were used.
