How A Tiny Mistake Destroyed America's First Interplanetary Space Probe
Many people have heard the story of how a small code error destroyed a rocket - the rocket was an Atlas-Agena B launched in 1962 and carrying Mariner I and the error is commonly reported as a 'missing hyphen'. However it's often misreported and I've always had questions, so I wanted to get to the bottom of the story and find out the real truths: It's not a hyphen, it's an Overbar. It wasn't a simple fat fingered typo by a programmer. It required a hardware failure to expose the bug. 1950's rocket guidance technology was hella complicated.
It's a busy few days - the Perseverance rover launched for Mars, Starship SN5 performed a successful test fire of its single raptor engine with a flight possibly as soon as Sunday. We have Hurricanes off the short of Florida but we're sure Endeavour is coming home with Bob & Doug.
And Astra has another rocket on the pad in Alaska and may be trying another launch in the coming days.

Space Ship 2 made its first powered flight earlier this week, so I thought I'd try and make a copy of its wing actuation technology that could let me perform a feathered re-entry. Frankly, I'm shocked at how well this worked in the end!

It's a popular trope in Science Fiction, and indeed in scientific visualization, a stunning view of Saturn and its rings viewed while standing on one of Saturn's moons. However, the reality is that only 2 major moons - Mimas and Iapetus - offer anything other than a near perfect edge on view of the rings. And there's good scientific reasons for why this is the case.

Originally launched in 1997 the Cassini-Huygens mission was one of the largest space probes ever, a massive space exploration mission which would spend over a decade orbiting Saturn and sending back over 600 gigabytes of scientific data.
Using data and images from NASA's Cassini team I talk about the voyages.
(and yes I mispronounce a couple of moon names)

The first of 2 videos exploring the new bells and whistles in the new asteroid redirect mission update for Kerbal Space Program.
Sorry, I got distracted flying around with Ion engine powered aircraft, instead of diverting an asteroid.

The Minmus exploration program discovers further flaws in its plan, specifically staffing shortages have led to the inability to process science correctly. Meanwhile the Duna Express returns to Kerbin's sphere of influence and an unplanned course correction causes some consternation.

This is a recreation of my first 'science' mission, taking me to Minmus, and past the mun for over 350 science on my first mission. I know I can do better, but this was what I started with.

Green laser pointers are amazingly useful tools for teaching the general public about the night sky, it's easy to point out specific targets and have everyone know what you mean. Sometimes people will point out satellites and even the ISS, so I wanted to figure out whether an astronaut on the ISS would be able to see lasers from people on the ground.
Here's the original video of the ISS Flash project:

The third part of my Career mode tutorial - we build a rocket that'll take us into orbit, learn a little about how to maneuver while in orbit and grab some science while we're up there.
