Regular cleaning (every 30 days) with a hot tub filter cleaner is the best way to have them last and perform well. If you are simply rinsing your hot tub filters with water then this will not clean the oil that is saturating the paper filter. If you do not clean your filters properly (or often enough) then they will wear prematurely from the additional resistance to flow and the pressure from the spa pump trying to force water through them.
