Sennheiser MD42 Interview Mic Review/Test (Compared to EV635a, RE50B, HM-M2, Reporter, Interviewer)
Today I review an Electronic News Gathering (ENG) microphone from Sennheiser, the MD42. This thing has a very top heavy sound with a recessed low-end, and not overly congested mid frequency range (relatively speaking). It also offers a slightly higher output than the other ENG mics that I’ve tested, and an excellent build quality.

Today I review a budget dynamic mic which costs about $60. It has so much in terms of low mids that it makes ribbon mics sound weak. It has an inverted polarity on the USB output and it makes the audio sound bad. The headphone amp is noisy if you're monitoring yourself. It is not a good mic and I do not recommend it.

Today I review a new budget condenser mic from Mackie, the EM-91C. This is a rather dark condenser microphone, but it avoids any kind of sibilance or fatiguing sounds. Due to the treble and air cut it’s not as detailed or articulate as other affordable condenser, but I find it much more pleasing to listen to. I also compare it to the Neewer NW700, the Audio Technica AT2020, and the Neat King Bee.

Today we look at the successor to the famous Sony C800G, the C100. This is a solid state two way condenser mic with a frequency response of 20Hz - 50kHz. It offers a hyper-detailed and articulate sound as well as a clear mid section and a surprisingly hefty low end.

Today I review the brand new budget broadcast dynamic microphone, the Polsen MC-Pod. This is a very affordable mic that has a somewhat full body, a little bit of an inarticulate mid section, and a touch sibilant top end. For the price it’s a very compelling mic though. I compare it to the Zoom ZDM-1, Shure SM58, sE Electronics v7, Presonus PD-70, Sontronics Podcast Pro, and MXL BCD-1.
