For today I wanted to share with you guys the best weight training exercises to increase your vertical. In order to increase vertical jump we need to develop the right strength for our jump pattern. Doing exercises that mimic your actual jumping motion is going to be your best bet when training your body to jump higher.
There are a lot of different exercises I could recommend for increasing your vertical jump, but these are going to be the standouts at least when developing your foundational strength. These aren't going to develop maximal explosiveness for your vertical, but this builds that bar and helps your body reach a higher potential for explosiveness.

For today's video I am talking about the depth jump vs the drop jump. I explain the difference and talk about the form of each.
The depth jump is more of an absorption movement with a lot more flexion at the knee and hip area allowing the body for maximum jump capacity. The drop jump has a lot less ground contact time than the depth jump. The focuses more on the reaction and activation of the muscle fibers, as well as training your body's ability to maintain stiffness throughout the movement. I mention in the video that these exercises are each just as important as one another in there own way, the depth jump may take the cake slightly. But that doesn't take away the importance of the drop jump movement. Without that portion of the exercise you would not be able to reach your body's highest potential jump, so the both go hand in hand.

ACTIVITY FACTOR
1: Sedentary = 1.2
2: Lightly Active = 1.375
3: Moderate = 1.55
4: Active = 1.725
5: Very Active = 1.9
I explain in the video of knowing where your activity level might be, and using the link above will find your Basal Metabolic Rate. After knowing those 2 number it becomes very easy after that. You will simply multiply them to find your maintenance daily calorie total.
Depending on your goal if you need to gain weight or lose weight this number will change. I forgot to mention in the video, but if you are wanting to gain weight you will simply up the calories by about 500. If you are wanting to lose weight you will lower the calories by 500. I use the number 500 because their is 3,500 calories in a pound, so in a week time that should equal about 1 pound.
In our example in the video for weight gain, instead of 3,000 calories you would do 3,500 calories. For weight loss, you would do 2,500.

In this video I give you the 4 stages that will be the best way to increase your vertical jump. These are the steps I tell beginners to take when they are trying to increase their vertical jump fast. This will be the most efficient, safest and fastest way to improve your vertical jump as long as you follow each of these in order, and do not skip any. Doing all of these stages in order is going to maximize your vertical jump potential, and will give you a very low risk for injury which is a big thing when vertical jump training.
1: Strength
This is the foundation of pretty much everything, and is a must for developing a vertical jump program. I explain in the video what my rule is for squat strength before moving on to the next stages.
2: Force Absorption
This step is one that many skip over, but is very important for training your body the proper jumping mechanics. Eccentric Squat, and Depth Drops are some good exercise examples for force absorption.
3: Plyometrics
In this stage we are doing force absorption plus force exertion, which is going to cause you to leave the ground in most situations. Box Jumps, Hurdle Jumps, Broad Jumps are some good exercise examples for plyometrics.
4: Explosive Exercises
A good way to explain this stage is that it is combining all three of the previous stages. Some good examples are Power Squats, Weighted Depth Jumps, and Power Cleans. My rule for this stage is to not begin until your squat has reached 1.5 of your body weight.
