Nirvana's WAIF ME Explained
As one might imagine, large corporate retail chains were quite unhappy with the idea of stocking an album with offensive titles and pictures of unborn babies on the cover art. So they initially refused to stock Nirvana's third studio album, In Utero until the band agreed to change at least one offensive song title to "Waif Me" as well as removing the unwanted imagery from the artwork. The actual lyrics themselves were not changed at all, just the title of the song on the back cover.
Now one might think that a band like Nirvana who spent much of their short but explosive career blasting corporate rock and corporate media would give a big middle finger salute to such companies and refuse to comply with their demands for censorship. However, Kurt decided to let this one slide because large chains such as Walmart or K-mart were the only places that he could purchase music as a kid. He didn't want to deprive other kids like himself from being able to pick up a Nirvana album.

What Is Scentless Apprentice?
Have you ever met a man who had no scent? Well, meet Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, the main character of Patrick Suskind's Purfume. A novel that Kurt Cobain enjoyed so much that he wrote a song about it. The book centers on a strange figure, an odorless man who serves as a perfumer's assistant and has a sadistic hobby of killing virgins in order to steal their scent.
Hence the lyrics:

Three songs on the album were inspired by Billie Joe Armstrong's ex-girlfriend.
The lyrics for "She" were written in response to a poem that Billie's former girlfriend once showed to him. "She gave me this poem about this empowering woman... I wrote the song as an answer back to her. My now ex-girlfriend is also on the songs "Sassafras Roots" and "Chump."" - Billie Joe Armstrong (Billie Joe: Confessions of a Basket Case, VH1 2002)

Red Hot Chili Peppers Studio Magic Californication
Californication was recorded analog style with all members of Red Hot Chili Peppers performing at the same time.
As Audio Engineer Jim Scott told Sound On Sound in 1999:
"We recorded all four of them at the same time, which is basically the sound of the album. John did guitar overdubs, maybe two or three on some of the songs, but in the world of overdubs that's not a lot. The slide guitar on 'Scar Tissue' is overdubbed, for example. I don't think he ever went back and replaced a whole guitar track, and Flea might only have replaced a few small sections... The sound of the record is what happened during that first week of recording...
Flea, John and Chad were about 10 feet away from each other in a pretty small circle, and Anthony was just a few more feet away in his booth, easily visible through the glass. Rick Rubin HELPS Slipknot Guitarist Jim Root
Although singer Corey Taylor had a negative experience working with producer Rick Rubin on The Subliminal Verses, guitarist Jim Root had a much different experience. As he explains:
"As dark as that [time was for me], it was really amazing how attentive Rick Rubin was to us as a band. He knew I was going through a hard time. I never told him, but I got a knock on my bedroom door, and his assistant came up and he had this herbal calming drop that you put on your tongue to mellow out. A lot of the guys in the band say Rick was unavailable. And, yeah, he takes on a lot of projects at one time, but he also does things that are beneficial. He was listening and having us retrack things that needed work. He's kind of like Big Brother up on the hill. Even though he wasn't there physically every day, he was. And that's my favorite record we've done. We tried some things that were different and took some chances and they came out great. I was hoping we'd be able to evolve from that.
