For those of you thinking ‘I like ChatGPT, but where are its arms and legs?’, there is finally some good news. The boffins at Shanghai-based Fourier Intelligence have been able to develop a humanoid robot that is not only capable of riding a VR boat (a world’s first, we think), but can walk like it really, really needs to go to the little androids’ room. And soon, you can buy one. The GR-1 is expected to go on sale next year, with the company mass producing the units. But in all seriousness, why would you need a humanoid robot? Fourier believes GR-1 has applications in rehabilitation (and also showed off an exoskeleton that aids walking as part of that application), but also in industrial, scientific, and even residential applications. It also has a ‘functional module’ that helps it get out of the way of ambulances at traffic lights.
