Electro Voice RE27 N/D Broadcast Dynamic Mic Review / Test
Today I review the Electro Voice RE27 N/D. Out of the box this microphone sounds pretty bad, but once you switch on the high cut, you can get some pretty stelar voice over tones. It does a great job at off axis and rear rejection as well, but the off axis coloration is also pretty rough. Even with these cons, I rather like the tone of the mic when spoken into with proper microphone technique, and I think it would be a good microphone for podcasts or radio broadcasts.

Today I review the Audio-Technica AT4040, a large diaphragm XLR condenser mic. This thing has a relatively neutral frequency response up through 2kHz where you start to see contouring leading to a boosted presence and air boost with a cut around 9kHz. Overall this thing has a pronounced proximity effect, but at a 3-6 inches you’ll find a smooth frequency response with nice boosted high frequencies without any stand out harsh frequencies except for the occasional sibilance.

Today I review the Rode VideoMic NTG Camera-mount Shotgun Mic. This is a camera top shotgun microphone, but also a USB Shotgun Microphone. This is the first shotgun mic that I’ve seen that has this functionality. All in all it’s a very full featured option, and I think the new gold standard in this department.

Today we’re looking at a stage dynamic vocal microphone, the Electro Voice ND76. This is an alternative to the SM58, which offers more clarity and detail due to an 8dB boost around 6kHz, and also does a great job at rejecting handling noise and off-axis rejection, however, it doesn’t do the best at rejecting plosives.

Today I review the FiFine K669 USB Podcast Mic which is a $25 Budget USB Microphone that performs pretty well for the price. It likely won't work well for any professional applications, but for personal use, it should be sufficient.
