FLW Costa Practice on the St Lawrence River!
So here we are the final FLW Costa Series Open tournament of the year on the St Lawrence River out of Massena, NY. I have been pretty consistent this year not a stellar showing but I have high hopes for the final event. After messing the top 10 Cut on the Potomac River last month by ounces I was looking for a big finish here! This is new water for the most part for me. I have fished down at this end of Massena before but I don't have that much time on the water here. I decided to fish closer to areas that I am a bit more familiar with and that meant a longer boat ride to my spots during the event.

Bassmaster Northern Open Mid-Week Practice on Oneida Lake!
Well I had a few days of practice and got a feel for how Oneida Lake was fishing. I noticed that a lot of the fish where not in the usual areas that I fished in the past this time of year. I couldn't get a top water bite going and we had a lot of rainstorms and some cooler days which brought the water temp down a bit. I ended up finding a few good patterns that I am excited about and think I can capitalize on a few of these spots! I am looking forward to the actual tournament and think I can put together a good bag of fish. I also noticed that the Smallmouth Bass have seemed to be getting bigger then normal. This has to be due to the increasing number of gobys in the system. Gobys have been in the lake for a number of years but this year I really noticed them. They would peck at the bait constantly in certain areas and I know they are a great source of food for bass. I think within a year or two Oneida Lake will be putting out some larger then average Smallmouth Bass because of this.

In this video I decided it was time to get my hands on a new bass boat! I decided to go with a Nitro z21 with a Mercury Pro XS Four Stroke Motor. I purchase this boat from the 2nd oldest Tracker Dealer in the country, Bower's Marine. Doug over at Bower's Marine did a great job at setting me up with the Nitro Z21. This new Nitro is a beast. I am super happy the way this new bass boat turned out. Everything from the bow to stern is set up perfectly and this is a bass fishing machine.
The motor is the brand new Mercury Pro XS four stroke and is 250 horse power! This motor is so quiet and such a pleasure to drive. The whole shot and top end speed is incredible! And best of all no more OIL!
The boat is fully loaded and is equipped with 2 10 foot Power Poles, 2 Humminbird Helix 12's, 2 Garmin 1242 touch and a Minn Kota Ultrex.
I had this boat for about 3 days now and was able to head out on Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence River with Cornell from YoutubeFiSHINGVIDS. FLW Costa Series Bass Tournament on the St Lawrence River 1000 Islands Clayton, NY First Day.
I don't know where this summer is going but it is going by way to fast! I head up to start practice for the FLW Costa out of 1000 Islands on the St Lawrence River and I cannot wait to crush some epic smallmouth! I have been up this area and more specifically Lake Ontario a bunch of times and have never had a bad trip! The fish are always biting somewhere and they are huge! The St Lawrence River has great fishing for every freshwater species of fish that you can imagine but I come up here for the great Smallmouth Bass that this body of water has to offer. There are so many different options and ways to fish them from super shallow out to 60 plus feet of water. This area is huge you can run as far as your tank of gas in your boat will let you.
In this video my traveling partners Lucas, Matt and myself are staying at a cabin near the shore of the St Lawrence River in a town called Cape Vincent, NY It is only about a 20 minute drive from where the FLW Costa is launching out of in Clayton, NY so it is the perfect spot. We will have plenty of fish catches and some good times in the next up coming videos!

Wow! I am sitting in 10th place after day 1 of the FLW Costa Series on the Potomac River. Trying to sneak into the top 10 cut and fish tomorrow! Going to need a decent bag of bass in order to do that. Based on my practice I am happy to be where I am at right now but I certainly have some work to do! Today is the day to get it done. Looking to get 5 bass in the boat quick and hopefully have enough to make the top 10 for tomorrow! It is going to be a fun day on the Potomac River, hopefully the bass cooperate for me today!

Who is SmallmouthCrush?
Travis Manson was born and raised in Wisconsin. He started fishing from the bank at a young age and spent most of his childhood with a rod in his hand. Travis is primarily a self-taught angler that is always learning and experiencing this amazing sport of fishing. He started out fishing for walleyes and fishing in local walleye tournaments, but then in his mid 20's, he caught the BASS BUG and has been hooked every since. He competed at the highest level in bass fishing on the Bassmaster Elite Series for a number of years. He is a full time fishing guide offering trips on the Chesapeake Bay for largemouth bass(year round) and trophy smallmouth bass guided trips in Upstate New York on Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence River. His Youtube Channel is named after his passion for the smallmouth bass and will be used as a platform for "how-to" videos, on the water instruction, crazy on and off the water topics and vlogs on the day in the life of a fishing addict! In this video I break down one my favorite CHEAP soft plastics to drop shot with. I use the Wacky Worm Inc brand of stick baits in the 3 inch size whenever I am around aggressive bass. I can buy these stick baits in bulk and not break the bank! I do not mind using these off brand stick baits over the more expensive senkos when I am drop shotting because I do like the fall rate and I put a lot of the action into the bait when I am drop shotting. For other techniques with a stick bait I will use other brands but when the fish are biting and aggressive these are a great option! If you want to save some money buy in bulk and get a few bags of your favorite colors.
