Leo Says 25 - AMD Threadripper 2, Apple Trillion, 28 Core Intel and more!
Today Leo talks about AMD's upcoming Threadripper 2 after his trip to the press conference. It's looking good for AMD!

He also discusses Apple breaking the 'trillion' barrier, Intels 28 core monster and more!

00:14 Apple is a US$1 Trillion dollar company
01:05 A comment to Knut Richard Vanderloock
01:31 Braun 9000 Bluetooth Toothbrush with RGB!
04:35 TSMC victim of virus/malware
05:52 AMD Threadripper 2 news including temps and X399 motherboards update
13:04 Is the 28-core Intel CPU Cascade Lake X?

Leos Notes: Apple is a US$1 Trillion dollar company
That is Market Cap
They have US$243 billion in cash and make US$11 billion in profit each quarter.

A comment to Knut Richard Vanderloock. You prompted me to do some reading and I now recognise the Cardioid logo and can only say D’Oh!

My new Braun 9000 toothbrush has Bluetooth, just like the previous 9000 but now comes with RGB lighting and is pretty much insecure. The app demands permission to take photos and video as you are brushing your teeth.
My toothbrush does not rate as critical infrastructure but nonetheless this is the Internet of Things in action and I do not like it one little bit.

On the subject of security, TSMC has suffered from a virus or some sort of malware and has shut down a number of its factories

This happened on Friday night and they are due to issue an update on Monday so we do not yet know the consequences but TSMC certainly counts as critical for Taiwan and also for Apple, AMD, Nvidia and others.
Is China involved?

Threadripper X Series – 2 dies
The 8-core part is no more and the entry point is 12-core.
US$649 Threadripper 2920X, 12 cores/24 threads, 3.5GHz Base, 4.3GHz Boost
US$899 Threadripper 2950X, 16 cores/32 threads, 3.5GHz Base, 4.4GHz Boost

Clock speed increase thanks to the 12nm die shrink is +100MHz on base speed and +200MHz on boost speed.

Everything we learned from 2nd Gen Ryzen about TDP, clock speeds, Precision Boost 2, AMD SenseMI Technology and XFR2 applies to 2nd Gen Threadripper.

Threadripper WX Series – 4 dies
US$1299 Threadripper 2970WX, 24 cores/48 threads, 3.0GHz Base, 4.2GHz Boost
US$1799 Threadripper 2990WX, 32 cores/64 threads, 3.0GHz Base, 4.2GHz Boost
250W TDP

1st Gen TR 1920X and 1950X have a TDP of 180W. They did not give a TDP for 2920X and 2950X but it seems to be 150W.

Memory latency for both X and WX Threadrippers is:
64ns for near memory and 105ns for far memory
X399 compatibility means quad channel DDR4 support, hence the new dies link to original dies to connect to DDR4.

The Cooler Master Wraith Ripper air cooler we saw at Computex can manage 250W TDP. Coppe
