Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler revealed on Wednesday his plan to keep the internet neutral and open. The proposed regulation is a victory for net neutrality advocates who have been pushing for years to have the internet treated as a public utility, like water or electricity. Wheeler’s proposal states that broadband internet to be regulated under something known as Title II. The decision to lump wireless networks in with wired-broadband was arguably the biggest shock from the proposal. Erin weighs in. Then, Erin is joined by Evan Engstrom – policy director of Engine. Evan tells us why the FCC is now proposing the Internet be regulated as a public utility and gives us his take on why Sprint came out in support of net neutrality after originally opposing it.
