Eugene Thacker's "In the Dust of this Planet" takes aim at Descartes as a philosopher in denial, describing him as backing away from the pessimistic conclusions his own philosophy inevitably leads to. In part one of this video series we consider the Cartesian subject as a dreaming subject.
Also, stay tuned after the conclusion to catch the first installment of a new series called "Movie Town."
Zero Books Manifesto: The modern world is at an impasse. Disasters scroll across our smartphone screens and we’re invited to like, follow or upvote, but critical thinking is harder and harder to find. Rather than connecting us in common struggle and debate, the internet has sped up and deepened a long-standing process of alienation and atomization.
An interview with Kim Jones, preschool teaching assistant, in West Virginia during the successful wildcat strike of March 2018. On Tuesday, after the strike ended, Kim wrote: "We won, in the big picture, the day we walked out. Because we started a rowdy conversation about economic justice that stretched around the world. And we did it, by putting our small differences aside and acting as one for the common good. In America, in March 2018, that's the most countercultural thing a group of people can do. It's almost a miracle."

SOTTOTITOLI DISPONIBILI IN ITALIANO
From the Renaissance to the fascist era to the student and worker uprisings of the '60s and '70s, the Italian peninsula has long been a volatile theater of political conflict. In this video, Conrad Hamilton and Ludovica Mancini team up to answer the question: what can the Italian radical tradition both old (communist) and older (republican) teach the Anglophone left today?
Correction: While in this video it's stated that Antonio Negri fled to France "before he could be put in prison," for charges related to his association with the Brigate Rosse, this is incorrect. Negri fled to France in 1983 before he could be charged on account of his association with BR. However, he had already spent over four years in prison awaiting trial—from 1979 to 1983—prior to his flight. Later, he returned to Italy, serving out his sentence (pronounced in absentia during his exile) from 1997-2003 before being released on parole.
Written, starred in and English subtitles by Conrad Hamilton
Directed, edited and Italian subtitles by Ludovica Mancini

Joanna Demers’ essay “The Necks and Marx's Economy of Time” asks what kind of music helps us to imagine a break with capitalist logic. Her answer is simple: Minimalism.
Demers’ is chair of Musicology at the USC Thornton School of Music and the author of the books Drone and Apocalypse and Anatomy of Thought Fiction. In this video essay, she explores Marxism’s commitment to the future, the teleology at work in our linear orientation, and the promise of timelessness.
